“Pricey for absolutely poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

stayed recently on business trip.

First the good -

great location. looks great from the outside. rooms were tidy for the most part although a bit old. Food from attached restaurant was OK, although not great. Concierge was very helpful with the few requests placed.

Now the bad -
Rooms are tiny for the kind of price they charge. The aircon spreads funky smell when turned on (mold?) . It is simply outrageous. Front desk / room service - both need 1000% overhaul. Internet service in the room (hard wired) was very finicky. When it didn't connect, repeated calls to service desk seem to go into a black-hole. Room cleaning service does a terrible job of replenishing bathroom supplies and complimentary snacks/fruits in the room. During checkout, the front desk did not even bother to ask how my stay was, although I stayed there for a week. Tells you something - doesn't it?

Will certainly not recommend for business travelers on a travel budget, but pretty much all business hotels are like this or much worse in town. So may not have much choice after all :(

Room Tip: Rooms in other hotels are better - or choose the airport lounge - even better.

“Lack of choice in Jeddah”

If this hotel was in a city with more than 5 hotels, it would not stand a chance. The standards of everything is poor. The reception staff is disinterested and not really professional. The rooms are tiny. The corridors are gloomy. The room service food is terrible.

The gym which is outside the main buidling is quite large and has lots of space. The breakfast buffet is quite good

“Comfortable Intercon, useful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

I'm a regular user of Intercon hotels and although the hotel is old, overall it has a good standard.

Location wise its right next to the sea on the Hamra Corniche. It's convenient if our visiting for business due to its proximity to the business and downtown areas. Within 5 mins drive are many restaurants including the American and international chains. The only watch out is that the traffic is usually busy so it takes time to get in and out of the area. My tip is to use the old airport road.

The hotel itself looks like it was updated 3-4 years ago so the rooms, lobby and restaurants are all pleasant enough. Bathrooms are also fine. Typical Intercon rooms, if unremarkable compared to some Intercon's.

There is free wireless Internet across the hotel.

As for the staff then not very happy smiley which was disappointing.

Be careful to check ur room for any vibration from a/c machines.

Beds are big and comfy.

Overall a decent hotel

This is a real good hotel . Stayed there in October. staff is friendly and the aminities are good. Pool timinga are a bit stringent though. closes at 7 PM. Hardly any time after coming back from work.

Room Tip: Explicitely request for a non smoking room. They can't assure you though about it

“Good hardware but software leaves much to be desired”

One of the 'classic' international hotels in Jeddah, serving both intl business travellers and the local community; a well maintained property ..tasteful interiors. Guest rooms well appointed, great bathrooms, lots of room amenities. However ..there is a distinct lack of professional management palatable. If not for the Filippino front desk and concierge staff ..the local front desk officers are simply not up to the job. The lobby lounge service was a joke ..20 minutes wait for a sandwich ..when the place just had a handful of guests; dirty tissues of previous guests not cleaned up. Breakfast: the chef forgot the order for fried eggs, an order for 2 cappuccinos had one delivered 15 minutes later and the other cappuccino never arrived. Up at the Fish Market we were told that a certain salt water fish was imported from Switzerland - not a joke! My Do-Not-Disturb sign was blissfully ignored and I had house keeping staff opening my room door without even knocking. And ..there was the very perceptible sound of rodents active in ithe false ceiling of my bathroom. My colleague had a sleepless night because of a loud party outside the hotel ..going on until 3 am .. In conclusion ..the Jeddah Interconti is not up the usual intl Interconti standard .. all it would take is a GM with more attention to detail with regards to Front Desk, room services and F & B outlets.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the hotel are less noisy
