“Good value for what you pay, comfortable, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2010

I stayed 2 nights at the hotel on a class trip to visit a research center in Aleppo. There a was a little misunderstanding about the room distribution at the beginning but it was quickly solved. The rooms were really comfortable with large TVs, wireless internet connection, and a quite large bathroom. However, there was a noticeable lack of lighting in all our rooms. Reading inside was painfull, specially that we couldn't really open the curtains because we were on the first floor and our large windows gave us a view of big crowded roads and restaurants. The hotel restaurants are quite good, especially La Rose, which is really inexpensive and offers delicious meals. Personnaly I didn't get the chance to try all 6-7 of them. All in all we had a pleasant comfortable stay.

“Do not stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2009

If you are thinking of visiting Aleppo, find a local hotel near the centre of town. The service at this hotel was terrible. Many of the rooms smelt of diesel fumes (I was with a large party so saw several); in one room the smell was unbearable and the reception were very indifferent to complaints about it. One of our party believed they had items removed from their room whilst staying at the hotel, but whether or not they were correct their complaint was treated with a total lack of respect by the hotel reception. We also were ripped off in the hotel cafe by a member of staff who refused to write a receipt for their made up 'bill' and we had to get a local person involved in order to discover the correct, uninflated amount (this was not simply a matter of them charging more to foreigners). The most positive thing was the food, which was reasonable.

“Poor value at Pullman Al Shahba Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2009

I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Aleppo and would advise travellers to stay elsewhere. If you are going to Aleppo to see the souk and citadel, stay in a place near the old part of town. This hotel is a 20 min taxi ride into the interesting parts of town and 3 of 4 taxi drivers didn't know how to get to the hotel: that's how out of touch this hotel is with the charms of Aleppo.
Most things in the hotel did not work: toilet, internet, shower drain, telephone, etc. Also it was shoddy: bathroom hooks that were crooked, dirty floors, damaged door hinges, paint all over fixtures, etc. Diana Darke who wrote the Syria Bradt Guide said that 'everything worked in this business hotel': unfortunately now nothing works.
The breakfast had canned fruit , an insult to travellers who have been eating fabulously fresh apples, persimmons, figs, oranges and bananas grown locally. The final insult was receiving a $61 laundry bill: the front desk charged us 'foreigner' prices instead of the prices listed on the sheet in our room, then added 16% overcharge when they converted from Syrian pounds to US $. The correct bill should have been US$ 18! Don't stay here. Find some wonderful small hotel near old town, not this touristy rip-off place.
