“Glorious despite the actual crisis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We were 4 people, almost the only guests at the hotel during a supposedly high-season period (Xmas to New Year's eve). It seems the political crisis in Syria has certainly touched this wonderful boutique hotel, even the resto was closed. However, the staff were doing their best to help and serve: breakfast was very good, so were the beds. The only shortcoming was the relatively dirty floor. The national price went down from 75USD for a double room to 25USD; excellent! Isn't it.

“Thoroughly charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2011

For visitors who would rather stay in historic surroundings and in a traditional upscale Aleppo family home now transformed into a boutique hotel, this is a good bet. The buildings are beautiful, and in a lovely part of the old town (confusingly known as the new town!). It is, however, the antithesis of the 5-star experience. The room I had was small but adequate. The bathroom required a degree of improvisation. But all the essentials were there: helpful staff at the reception desk, hot water at all times and good telecommunications links. The courtyard around which most rooms are built is spectacular - reminiscent of that of the American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem. Curiously, there was no seating provided in it, but I dragged a bench out of my room & this worked well. Breakfast was a dispiriting-looking buffet, but actually tasted very good. The restaurant staff, a bit surly at first glance, were able to provide whatever I wanted and warmed up slightly as we became more used to each other. I paid slightly over $ 100 a night for my small room, good value overall. In sum, a very good experience for those willing to relax into it.

“Surprised that this is rated as 4 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

Public areas are quite charming but sadly, the rooms aren't quite so. We paid approx $US 150 for a room that was quite run-down, not well appointed (not even one chair!) - quite sad really. Only saving grace for this hotel is its location but it needs to lift its game.

“the best place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

I happen to have stayed in this hotel for 5 times. This hotel is a real pearl in this ancient city. I love the simple rooming decors, the beautiful courtyard. The rooms can be small, some rooms have splendid sizes like rooms No 29 and 30. The staff is eager to help you in any matter. Dont miss to have a lunch or dinner in the restaurant.

“Good BUDGET hotel; great location and patio.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Since I travel on a strict budget, I am used to hostels, so this was no big surprise. It is not a 3 or 4 star hotel, but fine as a hostel. Location is its best quality. A fun way to be a part of the local culture........every street is an adventure. I would recommend this to my friends who travel on a budget, but not to those who require 4 star quality.
