“Great base to explore Aleppo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

Although this hotel is quite large because it spans two or three buildings, it retains it's traditional feel. Our room was in an annex across the street from the main building, and was large and had both bath and separate shower.
At first we thought we had no hot water, but the staff dealt with that and it could just have taken some time for it to run through the system. We backed onto a street and could occasionally hear carts being dragged by the window late at night and early morning, but it was a minor issue.
The location is perfect, and the streets around the hotel provide as much interest as the old city.

“2nd time in this lovely hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

I've stayed at Dar Zamaria last year as well.Great location, beautiful hotel but they need to improve their sevice. There was Mr. Ammar who was a great help at the reception of section C but theothers are not aware of their jobs. They perefer to sleep behind the desk:-) Towels are clean but because of the water, most probably, colors are gray. They really need to improve the quality of the service.Breakfast is great.Location is great. You can shop 'till you drop in the little allies with really good prices. The little soap shop to the left side of the square is super.Try some Arabic:-) I would go there again.Just mind that Syria is new in tourism and will improve at the end.

“Beautiful location and courtyards, disappointing rooms and service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

We chose this hotel because it was highlighted as one of the best boutique hotels in Aleppo by Lonely Planet. While the location down a tiny lane and the multiple houses with their plushly decorated courtyards are indeed extremely beautiful, the rooms do not reach the same degree of charming luxury.

We also did not rate the staff, who were cold and unhelpful. We moved to the Yasmeen d'Alep hotel for our second night in Aleppo, which was more expensive but well worth the money for the better rooms and excellent friendly service you receive there.

We also checked out Beit Wakil, which is also highly rated in the Lonely Planet. Its courtyard is absolutely stunning, but just like Dar Zamaria the rooms are only at 2 or 3 star standard.

“Beautiful building but needs a lot of work to become a decent hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

Stayed two nights as part of group tour. Absolutely stunning old mansions with beautiful tiled and decorated central courtyards some with fountains. Our room like all I think had internal windows overlooking the central courtyard but also an external window and air conditioning. The room was adequate in size but not very clean with poor lighting. The bathroom was small and not clean with grey threadbare towels. On having a shower the bathroom flooded due to water coming up through a drain hole in the floor. The management could not offer us an alternative and called a man who seemed to clear a blockage. Subsequently the quality of towels improved! Other friends had a huge room but also a very grubby bathroom and could not obtain hot water. Cleaning was by men only who just seemed to flood the floor with large amounts of water. Breakfast was in a delightful setting an a courtyard of another old building but was very unappetising with soggy french bread, poor quality fruit juice tasting like squash, dreadful coffee and hard boiled eggs. Dinner again in a fantastic setting on the roof of this building was adequate the first night but completely fell apart the second night with waits of over an hour for the second course and then cold and inedible when it arrived. We were told they had problems with the chef but even our tour manager put in an official complaint.

“Great Location and good spirit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

We were here for 2 nights. We had a great room in a historic style behind very thick walls. A good feeling. Breakfast is okay. Maybe a little bit exotic for Europeans. The top point is the location in the Old Town. Just a few steps and you have a great choice of small shops. The roof top restaurant is great. If you are there, you have to tray it once
