“Best value in Syria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

I stayed here for 2 nights while passing through to Beirut. Fantastic place and by far the best place (in terms of value) that I stayed at during my 3 week swing around the middle east. The rooms are large and spotless. The rooms are courtyard are built like a traditional middle eastern palace. The staff was helpful. My only negative from staying here was the breakfast, which was (to put it mildly), very subpar.

Overall it's a great place and this would be at the very top of my list when I'm back in Aleppo.

“Converted Aleppo town house of great charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

This large merchant's house with rooms opening a round a central covered couryard with its fountain is a fine way to enjoy old Aleppo. Our room was large and comfortable, but it is a converted house with steps and dark areas. Helpful staff who have little English or French. It took a day to orient ourselves on foot ()take your own map), but we were able to walk comfortably to the citadel, the grand mosque and all the souqs. We could do this several times a day and never needed taxis. It was good to walk out into in the old Armenian quarter with is shops, houses and markets. Not luxury by any means but good value

“Very nice hotel, terrific helpful staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2010

This hotel is a nicely restored classic Syrian building with a central courtyard and very clean attractive rooms. It is a five minute walk to al-Aziza, five minutes to the Christian quarter, and ten minutes to the old city. Overall we liked it very much and would stay again without hesitation.

There were two downsides: all the hard surfaces made it a bit noisy in our room sometimes even late at night when new guests arrived. The breakfast was average, with the lowpoint being the nescafe powdered coffee.

The hotel deserves very high marks for its helpful, friendly, multilingual staff.

“Lovely hotel, mind the tortoises”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

This place is full of character and is very atmospheric. There are a few tortoises which crawl around the beautiful courtyard all day and which add to the charm. Our room was quite small but very pretty and perfectly fine. We paid USD100 per night which seemed reasonable compared to some of the very top-end hotels. It was a bit of a hassle securing the reservation though as they didn't accept a credit card number so we had to wire a deposit through Western Union at our own expense. Also the breakfast is only OK. Overall though, the courtyard and the setting make up for these negatives and I really enjoyed the stay here.
