“Boutique hotel at fare price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed in this hotel three times. Hotel is situated perfectly in the center of the city close to all main attractions. Rooms are spacious, especially in suites. Hotel building is renovated khan (caravanseray) of XV century with old style furniture, shatters and railings with carvings, metal beds and acient elevator. All these things gives a feeling of arab culture and unique planning of houses. I like rooms in second building with a small inner garden and a fountain.
Service is good and personell at frontdesk is helpfull f.e. they can arrange lunch box for You if You travel to areas without food service. Breakfasts are basic, but it is common for Syria hotels.
Mr. Bashir himself is a very nice person and helped us with some problems not related with hotel service.

Room Tip: Suites are much better and not so expensive

“Lovely hotel, Awful service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

The welcome was good, when we arrived we received our room quite fast, even if was early in the morning.
The negative part which spoilt the stay:
Upon check in (around 8.3am or so in the morning) the receiption offered us to take the breakfast by or before 10.3am
After a shower we were in the breakfast room at 9.25am (just over one hour before the limit).
The gentleman over there was very impolite asking what we were doing over there. When we told him to have breakfast he said that we were not entitled to it. He told him about the reception guy offering it, he said that the receiption person knows nothing.
So I offered to pay him for the breakfast and then he said that the breakfast was taking away already.
When I told him (at this point I did not even want to have it over there anyway) that the breakfast was supposed to finish by 10.3am, he said in a very unpolite way "don't you know what is going on here and that there are only few toruists?"

I should have complaint at the hotel, but frankly we were very upset and decided just to leave it there.
The following day in the check out, the receiptionist was not as friendly as before, and even when I was paying for the drinks of the room, he sent someone to check the fridge, if something was missed. First time in my life that this happened.

“Mandaloun Hotel is fabolous”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

My wife and I staid at Mandaloun for 4 nights (two at the beginning and two and the end of our trip to Syria). As many palaces in that Country the outside is nothing compered to the luxorius internal courtyard, with carved walls and green plants hanging from the balcony that sorround the court. The rooms are as you can expect, with stone walls and are all with windows opening onto the courtyard (no noise or unpleasant views from outside). gg0176740361

We enjoyed it so much than we decided to stay there also the following week, returning from Damascus. When we came back, the Manager was so kind to offer us the suite at the same price of a standard double room. We felt there like kings.

We would suggest this hotel to everyone willing to stay in a place rich of charm and very cosy.

“Nice hotel but the service and the breakfast buffet only 2 stars.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2011

The location, size of the rooms and the old house courtyard setting was wonderful. The problem was with the service staff that do not speak English. With every small problems you have to go to main reception and try to explain the problem. The job of the hotel stuff is poorly supervised by managment. My room was clean but TV's remove control needed new battery, the toalet seat was displaced and when i ask for glass or plastic cubs the stuff was supprised that none was left in the room etc. . The breakfast buffet was the worst I have in all 5 hotels in Syria and the serving person was rude, and had problem with basic English . On the first day the bakery was 2 or 3 days old and oranges ( the only fruits on the table) were rotten. When someone was pointing out the quality of the oranges the breakfast staff took it away and the fruits were gone for the next days. The only coffee you may have was the nescaffee from the small paper bag. Most of the guests ask for the turkish coffee but the the rude staff was informing that no such coffee will be offered. After some of the guest insist to demand the better quality coffee the staff was able to serve nice expresso. The internet signal was very weak, you had to be very close to main reception to have some signal. The person who is in charge of the hotel staff need to do the better job because there is a lot off room for improvement. The mngr. prefers to smoke cigarets at the front door of the hotel than to step down to breakfast room to notice the problems. The hotel was booked only in 20% due to the problems in Syria and the hotel staff was not overloaded with the job.

“Best value in Syria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

I stayed here for 2 nights while passing through to Beirut. Fantastic place and by far the best place (in terms of value) that I stayed at during my 3 week swing around the middle east. The rooms are large and spotless. The rooms are courtyard are built like a traditional middle eastern palace. The staff was helpful. My only negative from staying here was the breakfast, which was (to put it mildly), very subpar.

Overall it's a great place and this would be at the very top of my list when I'm back in Aleppo.
