“Warm, luxurious and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The weather was bad when we arrived and so we needed cheering up and the welcome we got from the reception staff at the palace did the trick. It's a really welcoming place with comfy beds and great staff. It's about 50 yards from the square and is joined on to the main art gallery / museum so it's in a great position. The food is good and the cocktail bar is excellent. We loved it.

“Modern Comfort, Uneven Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

The Riga Palace is a new, modern high-rise hotel located an easy walk to the Souk, the National Museum, the Old Town area, and to the new and fascinating area along River Street. We stayed here for three nights in April 2011, and we recommend it for convenience and comfort.

Our room (#1227) was large and very attractively furnished with a comfortable king sized bed, night stands, side table with two chairs, a desk, a dresser with mini bar & t.v. There was a built-in closet with ample drawer and shelf space. The large, attractively tiled bathroom had a tub/shower combo and a fair amount of counter space. Two issues with the room were that water from the shower collected on the bathroom floor (a design flaw) and the a.c. was noisy and not very effective.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant on the roof terrace, which has an excellent view of the city. The setting was pleasant and the buffet was pretty good, but there was no fruit and only boiled eggs rather than scrambled or fried. There was an adequate selection of rolls, yogurt, olives.

Service at the front desk was mixed. We asked for help finding a restaurant in the old town area and were sent in the wrong direction by someone who didn’t seem to like being bothered. Other times, however, the personnel were friendly and helpful. Overall this didn’t detract from our experience, and we still recommend the Riga Palace as a comfortable and convenient option for Aleppo.

“What a kitschy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

I just dont know why we have to see such places in existence. I stayed in this house only because it was high season and i did not wanted to stay in the Sheraton. I like local hotels with charme. This house not far from the famous rundown Baron hotel is a big kitsch palace. It must be the dream come true for the ownerfamily, but it seems an nightmare for those who have taste. The overall design something in between russian aristrocratic and bohemian art deco, this house does not fit in its neighborhood. Its alienated the surroundings. The rooms are crowdied and small to other hotelrooms I have stayed in. The Aircon kept me awake most of the night, you could not control the AC in the room.
If you have a choice stay in one of the oldcity hotels nearby.

“A pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

The Riga in Aleppo, situated in a rather funky area that caters to buyers of ball bearings and the like, is quite attractive, has comfortable rooms and an excellent, spacious restaurant on the top floor which overlooks a good part of the city. There are muliple choices of entrees but I must confess it's the desserts that I remember the most. The hotel is quite central and a good starting off place.
In spite of my enthusiasm for the restaurant, I really wanted shish kebab and low and behold on the same street but opposite the Riga, there are 3 unpretentious restaurants catering to the locals where I enjoyed the tastiest of lamb kebabs which I won't forget.
