“Good vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

Although you seem to be smack in the middle of a quick fit centre this hotel is in a great location. The description in the guide book makes it sound a little sterile which it certainly isn't! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the staff vwery nice and helpful. The layout of breakfast leads to easy chatting with fellow travellers.

Tours can be arranged by the hotel with fellow travellers although be aware that the half day trip to the dead cities does not actually visit the dead cities

“Fair rooms but difficult to find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

The room and toilet are spacious. We took 2 double rooms with a balacony. Staff is helpful. But beware when you take taxi to there for the 1st time as many are confused with another "Tourism Hotel" nearby. This hotel is located in a small and quiet street and even locals are not aware of it. It's near Raga Hotel in Baron Street.

“Unreliable reservation.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

I have stayed in this hotel previously & found it comfortable. However, last time I tried to stay there I made a telephone booking & they told me they would be full for the next 4 days until the Sunday. I said I'll postpone my arrival until then & I gave them my name & nationality & they told me a room will be ready for me. Upon arrival on Sunday early afternoon I was told that they had no record of my reservation & that the hotel was full! In my opinion, a hotel which does not honour telephone bookings is clearly not to be trusted.

“Simply excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

The Tourist Hotel in Aleppo is truly one of the best places I've stayed in the middle east, price- and quality-wise. We paid SYP1100 for a twin room (Room 10) and it was well worth it. Initially we had some problems getting to the place as the taxi driver did not know how to get there; we finally found it on one of the lanes paralell to Bab al-Faraj. The hotel is located on the 2nd floor of a building and you'll have to climb up a flight of stairs, so just be aware of that if you have a lot of bags.

The hotel was very cosy and comfortable! It was pretty cold in Aleppo when we got there so it was a relief to walk into a warm lobby. The receptionist, a cheerful young man with short dark curly hair, immediately led us to our room. He was also really helpful throughout, giving me advice on where to buy certain things I was looking for and was very accommodating the whole time, even when I was interrupting a little gathering he was having with his friends downstairs (I think they live in the floor below), but in case you are worried they weren't noisy or boisterous at all.

The room was very spacious. It even had a balcony overlooking the street (but the view is not really something to rave about). There was no TV in our room but there was a sink, ceiling fan, air conditioning (not that we needed it at that time of the year), adequate hangers and hooks, and a wardrobe, towels and face towels. Sleep quality was good - I slept comfortably the whole night, except for one point when I woke up as it was too warm (!) because I had accidentally turned the radiator on to full blast.

The bathrooms (shared) were SUPERB by middle eastern standards. They were immaculately clean and were just painted as the paint smelled fresh. It was spotless and there were urinals for both men and women, and a bathtub (For the main bathroom, there were about 2 or 3 more). The showers were just great with a 24-hour hot water supply, multi-function shower head and very good water pressure. When you've been travelling the middle east for a while, you will REALLY appreciate that. I definitely had my best showers in the middle east right at the Tourist Hotel.

The Tourist Hotel was definitely the best place I've stayed in during my whole trip. Given its reasonable price, excellent premises and good location, this will be the only place I'll consider when I come back to Aleppo next time!

Cons - no Internet. but apparently it is hard to come by in Aleppo...

“Amazing Service - Perfect Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

I saved a lot of money by staying at the Tourist hotel! (which of course I spent in the Souks)
The service at this hotel is wonderful.
The rooms are basic but who needs much more in Aleppo...
