I stayed here for 3 nights recently, during a group tour with Explore. This was my second visit to L P and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, staying so far from the centre just takes the edge of your enjoyment. Yes, you can walk, but it's 15 minutes brisk walk from the Post Office end of the market. Yes, you can grab a tuk tuk, but that brings the usual hassle of agreeing a price, bargaining...... and you're less inclined to bother if you're on your own.
Room size is adequate, cleanliness above average. My shower worked perfectly well although a member of our party had a rusty bathtub! I found the reception staff friendly and helpful: they have bikes for rent at reasonable rates. When I was present, there was no Internet service at all, despite wi-fi notices in the lobby. I agree with other reviewers that the laundry is expensive, however, articles are returned properly folder or ironed. They're not using one of the back street guest house laundries which work just on weight. You pay your money, you take your choice.........
Breakfast was very poor. The fruit was limited and past it's prime. Service was invisible - we had to wander through to the kitchen to find anyone to rustle up fresh tea or coffee. Eggs had been prepared much earlier and left over the unlit buffet warmers. So they were cold and slimy! On our last morning, after some complaints, they abandoned the buffet and made breakfast on demand. There was no evening meal available.
I hope, for the benefit of future Explore travellers that the message got through - don't use this place again. There are so many great places to stay in L P, and this one needs to sharpen up it's offering if it wants to retain any business.
