Yes, this hotel has a lot of charm and this is probably the only positive aspect of it.
Insulation between the rooms is non-existing and the karaoke place next door makes it difficult to sleep early. And, on the top of it, it's quite expensive for beautiful Luang Prabang.

I read sometimes that people are not happy with various aspects of their hotel.
Everyone has a view and some like what others don't. This hotel epitamises luang prabang, it is part of the whole experience. Yes the monks next door rise at 3.50 to to the call of a gong but the whole city is given over to buddhist worship,architecture and history. To be so close to the culture is a bonus not a downside!
The rooms are good, the staff friendly and the breakfast tasty.
All in all a perfect place and if you get tired from the 10 minute walk to the centre,you will find a friendly tuk tuk driver to take you home.
No complaints at all.

Wow I am so surprised at the amount of reviewers who have complained about the noise! I just stayed here for 4 nights and I had no problems. It was so quiet and peaceful.. Maybe because the hotel was not full as it is their quiet season I think? Anyways I slept easily and was never woken once. The service in the hotel was excellent, the staff ate so polite and friendly. I loved breakfast , they cook it fresh for you- you get a fruit salad, juice, tea/ coffee, a selection of bread , toast and croissants and then eggs and bacon.
The location of the hotel is nice. at first I thought it was a bit of a distance but Luang Prabang is such a small place and it is only a 10 minute walk to the main street.
I didn't eat in the hotel restataunt but there is a really nice German restataunt very close to the hotel- you come out of the hotel little lane and go left , then cross the road and go right and it's on the right maybe a two minute walk from there. The food is lovely and home made! The pancakes are fab!! And so is the ice cream :o)
overall, I would recommend this hotel, I really liked it and have no complaints!

The location of the Villa Maydou is very convenient, not in the very center of Luang Prabang but since it's a pretty small city you can go everywhere easily. It's located next to a Temple but I don't agree with those who say it's noisy. It's a very quiet place with a very nice garden where you can have a drink, dinner etc.
Rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and they always try to help you. Food at the restaurant is also very well prepared and served. I highly recommend this hotel.
