“Decent place in good location”

We loved to sit on the terrace watching daily life go by in Luang Prabang. It is located conveniently at one end of the night market.
The prices at the guest house are a bit more expensive then in similar places. Service was a bit slow and when one order was taking wrong our dinner arrived 45 minutes after we sat down.

“terrible staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

my wife and i booked for 5 nights and this place spoilt our Luang Prabang holiday.
the room is small and there is barely enough space to put your luggage, but the worst part was the surly staff, which includes the owners (brother and sister or husband and wife). although we are in our 70's when they showed us our room, nobody offered to carry one of the suitcases. worst still we had to take off our shoes before going up the stairs, which made us uncomfortable as it was very slippery. when we stopped for a minute to catch our breath the guy just walked on and waited for us at the room.
the next morning at breakfast i had 2 cups of coffee and was chased across the road (no kidding) by a staff member as i had not paid for the 2nd cup of coffee. although b/f is included in the price, you only get one cup of coffee.
the staff and management included are surly, unhelpful and outright rude. not only to us, we spoke to some other guests and they had the same experience.
my wife and i have stayed at lots of places when we travel in asia, some are very good, some are not what we expected but as far as rude staff is concerned this hotel is the worst and unfortunately it is not just sometime it is there the minute you step inside the hotel and that can ruin your whole stay in lovely Luang Prabang.
there are plenty of other places to stay in LP in the same price range with better rooms and friendlier staff

“Great location, good room, staff ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

The central location is the main draw here; I bagged one of the front rooms with a great balcony overlooking the main street, which was a great place from which to people watch. Very close to the night market and you can see some of the monk's procession from the balcony.

It doesn't seem to be a bakery at all, and the only meals I had here were the free breakfasts, which were good and huge!! Ironically the bread was a bit of a let down though.

Staff tried to be helpful but it seemed that they didn't really have lots of experience in dealing with guests, although the female receptionist who seemed to run the show was knowledgable and always helpful

There is a bit of noise from adjacent rooms, plus from the road itself, so probably not ideal if you are a light sleeper.

Rooms were pretty clean, except there were a lot of red ants around (yes, they bite!). On my last morning (check out was at 12pm), I returned to the guesthouse at 1030am to be told my key was missing - the maids had already taken it and were cleaning my room despite me not having checked out or moved out my bags and personal effects which was a little offputting.

Overall though I would consider returning. There is a lot of competition in LP from other guesthouses so I would also check others out first.

“awful, overpriced, surly staff - couldn't wait to get out of there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2010

We had reserved 3 nights, but left after 1. From the very beginning, the surly staff left us standing on the sidewalk with our suitcases, and we had to struggle through the restaurant on our own, to the reception desk. The miniscule room was overpriced, aircon dripped on my sister's head in bed when it worked at all, the bathroom light didn't work. The breakfast was pitiful. The staff were surly and unhelpful. I'm happy we decided to switch hotels, because it would have ruined our stay in Luang Prabang.

“Advertised Free Wifi, but when Wifi Didn't work, Owner Verbally assualted me.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2010

I would love to spend the time on the deails but the long and short of it was, I chose this place because it had free wifi. The original plan was to get a few drinks, dinner and upload my pictures to the internet.

I found that the "Free Wifi" sign as well as the "2 for 1 BeerLao" sign was a joke. When I asked to see the manager, panic amongst the employees set in. I was told, "WiFi now works" when I said it wasn't the issue, various employees approached the table. Finally a waiter Yelled at me saying "You only had one beer, why do you think you should have Wifi".

The manager was sitting at a table and I approached her since she refused my request to see her. When I did she said "You are welcome?" I said "For what? False advertising? This is bad business!"

She started to yell and yell. I started to walk away and as I did I saw the entire restaurant looking at her. "If you are so rich (spit) stay at a Five Star Hotel!" "If you are so rich, you wouldn't Walk that Way". I said, "Nothing to do with Rich, never said I was, but I am a paying customer. She continued making a scene and I could hear her a block a way.

Avoid this place at all costs, I laughed when I saw someone else was verbally assualted.
