“location/value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

there are 2 hotels with the same name, one old in the night market, probably much cheaper and another just 4 minutes away by tuk tuk. the new one had quite comfortable rooms,if you're up at 6.30am about 200 monks go past the hotel and all the residents of the road put some food in each one's container.the hotel are rather mean with the bacon at breakfast.prices vary from $50 to $90. the $75 queen room and the $90 king room have large jakuzzi which you are very unlikely to use. this is not thailand. no girls. very spiritual people.

“Nice, quiet location, - no separate bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

This hotel is actually two different hotels: The main hotel by the night market in the center of Luang Prabang, and another one, identified as Ban Phonheuang about ten minutes walk away from the main hotel. The hotel web site is not clear about this, and it actually shows pictures from both locations as if it is all the same hotel. It's confusing; we thought we had booked rooms in the main hotel, but in fact ended up on the other one.

That wasn't entirely bad: We liked the slightly more rural atmosphere and didn't mind the short walk (only ten minutes) to the centre. It was quiet, and we woke up in the morning to the sounds and smells of women preparing food on open fires just across the street! Very nice.
The main drawback is that the hotel rooms does not have separate baths; but they instead have bathtubs inside the bedroom. Some people might find this quaint, - to others it might be a blocker for choosing this hotel (fortunately the toilet is in a separate room). One of our rooms (the one called "tiger") was close to a water tank (probably the hot water tank) that makes quite a lot of clearly audible sounds, also during the night.

The rooms were clean, and the beds were fine. The breakfast was OK; not buffet, but you chose from a menu that contains four-five different breakfast options (american, bagel, pancake, etc). You can rent bicycles from the hotel, and there are several massage parlors nearby (the one across the street is very basic, the one next door is more upscale and expensive, - and better). There is also a small family business 50 meters down the street providing very affordable laundry service (we used it). The staff is friendly, but somehow comes across as inexperienced. Charming, in a way. They asked us about 10.000 times what day we would pay our bill.

Conclusion: Not a bad place to stay if you can accept the unorthodox bathroom solution.

Room Tip: The room called "tiger" is next to a slightly noisy water tank.

“Almost there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenage kids took 2 rooms. Moved 1 room after 1 night as v noisy at front of hotel in morning, so moved to quieter room. Great location. Rooms good and staff friendly enough, but all a little laid back and teenagery for me. Not quite zippy enough for the money. Too much spot picking and mirror gazing in the cafe at breakfast!

“Very central but stay on rivers if you want quieter spot”

Nice hotel great cafe attached
We wanted 3 beds got 2 but other than this nice spot
Gave us a bottle if wine for NY which was nice and fresh fruit each day
As it's so central fairly noisy but can't fault it very pleasant staff
There is a lot of accommodation in town if you travel it may be worth waiting and looking at options if you are here a few days and want to sit and relax
Great town !!

“Great location & friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Pros:
1. Great location, at the start of the night market (main street).
2. At first, we were worried about the noise from the market & from the sepak-takraw stadium next door. But all activities ceased at about 10pm, and we had a great night sleep!
3. Friendly staff.
4. Free wifi (didnt work in the room, but it works in the lobby).
5. Romantic room (we stayed at the "Dog" room).

Cons:
1. Romantic room. I stayed at the hotel with a workmate, but the room is designed more for couples. The bathroom is in the bedroom! No door, no wall, no nothing. One of us would have to go down to the lobby while we take turn for shower. Hahaha..Fun!
2. No elevator. The room is on the 4th floor. Thankfully we're young and fit!

But overall, it's a wonderful hotel!
