“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed for 4 nights including new years eve. The we're in room 2 upstairs, balcony overlooking the river and street. Not much noise of a night time. Phon and her staff were very nice. The room was clean and tidy, bed was typical for asia , hard. Breakfast was a simple affair, choice of eggs boiled, scrambled or fried, baguette, fruit, coffee and juice.
The booked reasonable priced tours for us and no complaints. I would probably try somewhere different next time mfor no other reason than I see other properties that I would like to try.

“Great Location and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed two nights in the rooms 5 and 6, including New Year's Eve. Both rooms were spacious and clean; beds were comfortable. As stated by other reviewers the rooms were noisy during the day but didn't present too much of a problem at night. However, the cooling system is very noisy and couldn't be left on when you were trying to sleep.

Phon and the other staff are what makes this place special and worth a recommendation. When we arrived we needed to pay for our Elephant Camp overnight stay at the Shangri Lao. Phon took us to the office to pay and found us a retaurant for New Year's Eve, (this wasn't a great experience, however, but definitely not her fault). Location is excellent - close to everything, yet very quiet.

“Excellent value”

We stayed two nights in a balcony room and 3 nights in a back room. Both rooms were spacious and clean; beds were generally good, although the single bed in the back room was very hard.

Phon was an excellent hostess - always friendly and helpful, but I reserve my highest praise for Bun, who insisted on bringing our beers to our room, carried our bags and generally gave us the kind of service you'd expect at a five star hotel.

I would definitely stay here again - the only real criticisms I have are the breakfast, especially the coffee, and the fact that although they knew there were three of us in the room, we were charged $5 more than the price quoted for the first 2 nights, as Phon said the price quoted only included 2 breakfasts (on our second stay, the 3 of us shared 2 breakfasts, and on our last day, we skipped breakfast and went to a nearby cafe.)

Location is excellent - close to everything, yet very quiet.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms definitely add to the experience, but are 30% more expensive. Go for it if you pla...

“Lovely guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We had a lovely stay here. We had room one which was a front room with a balcony and this is a real must if your budget allows.

We found the rooms clean and they made the rooms up daily when you handed the key in (I suspect if you do not had the key in they do not clean up the rooms).

The beds were soft my Laos standards - bliss

The breakfast was simple as in many guest houses in Laos but fresh and tasty, eggs (we always got two) bread, fruit and a big cup of tea or coffee.

We arranged trips through the guest house and they dropped us off at the airport when we left.

Overall I would say a good stay in a good location.

I do agree though with a previous comment about the thin walls!

“OK stay....Great Balcony View of Mekong”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Only stayed here one night as the guesthouse I was staying in was booked for my final night in Luang Prabang. The stay was nice enough and price comparable ($50), but I was spoiled just a few doors down at the Villa Chidara 2.....See my review on Chidara 2 which was fabulous. Room was nice size & clean, but towels did have a bad sour smell. A/C worked very well as did the internet connection, but fridge didn't. Balcony overlooking the river is VERY NICE and I did enjoy sitting out there with a cold Beer Lao. We too were overcharged ($10.00) of the ride to the airport and having to leave early, we didn't have time to eat breakfast. Not a bad place to stay, but you can do better.
