MY first time in Karachi and amidst all the media attention on security issues, I chose the Marriott Karachi.
It did not disappoint for a myriad of reasons:
1) Secure security - Dogs, Mirrors, guards with rifles greet you and your taxi. You couldnt see the entrance to the hotel until you pass the X-ray check 80m from the Lobby.
2) Hospitality - Extreme Pakistani warmth exhibited from lobby to room to restaurant to check out. What they said were right, and I am not even a preferred member of the Marriott. The prompt airport transfer to the hotel is a good to have, especially for the first timer in pakistan.
3) Location - As with the other better hotels, the location is conveniently near town and the airport. Minimal traffic congestion, even during weekdays.
4) Suite - beautifully decorated and maintained, although a tad dated and could use some reno.
Overall a very good stay. The Sheraton would be the other equivalent branded hotel that one could try, and its in the same vicinity (about 1km) and price range from the Marriott.
I learnt also that the locals recommend quite strongly the PC Hotel in the same neighbourhood. Less secure I was told but at more than half the price difference, worthy of a try if you are not on business?
Would be coming back to the Marriott for my next trip.
