“Near old Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

The hotel war near the old palace, today this is used from the Army of Myanmar.
The hotel is not too near / too far from the city.
Rooms to the street side are lound at 4 am !
Better take one in the inner garden side. There in the garden ist also a nice pool bath.
You can use this for free.
Outside at the street is a bakery witch seems to belong to the hotel. You can have snacks and cakes there

“Football team living in hotel”

Very little door insulation and open walkway construction leads to a very loud and distrubing enviroment. Ask for a quiet room. The location is good and depending on the price you pay (around $50) it is okay. Paying more would not be good value

“Good Location with disgusting old things”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

Got a good view of Mandalay Palace, but felt like visiting an old people house. Very sloppy decoration of the room. Everything is out of date and a lot of mosquitoes in the room and on premises. Got only a few channel to watch on a very tiny tiny TV. Breakfast was pretty bad and expensive. Very small pool. Room service was expensive.Cost 3times what you will pay to eat outside. Foreigner $45 for smallest room, local $24.

“Spacious rooms, good breakfast & location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

Stayed 3 nights in a very large room with a king-size bed and an even larger bathroom (I especially liked the bathroom scale that weighed me about 30 pounds lighter than I really am!) Good breakfast. Left early everyday for sightseeing and returned late so can't comment on any other hotel services, other than the "spa" which is really just a small, dimly- lit room in a separate building where I got an excellent reflexology foot massage from a masseuse with hands of steel. Mandalay Marionette Theater is nearby & highly recommended.

“Pretty Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

I was there just over a week ago on a business trip to Mandalay. On the whole, I find the hotel to be pretty average, as its advantages and disadvantages kind of balance out.

First, the room is rather spacious, and I got one which literally looks out into the pool. Bathroom is also spacious and somehow comes with a weighing machine. The level of cleanliness is also rather good.

The staff are also generally friendly. Although they are not the most well-trained or professional, they make up for these with effort. They do try to be friendly and helpful according to the methods they know.

Location is also pretty good--opposite the royal palace. Near enough, but still offering some respite from the hustle and bustle of the dusty city of Mandalay.

The bads: The breakfast was disappointing. There is also no water boiler/kettle etc in the room so you can't get make your own hot drinks in the room

There is also no wireless access in the hotel. You can only use the internet for US$2/hour in the internet room which has only two computers.

Last but not least, the part I hate most is that on top of not being able to connect to the internet in the room is that guests also cannot make international calls from the room! One has to go to the reception to use the only phone in the entire hotel that is capable of making any international call. I think it is a major inconvenience, and I also didn't like the fact that there were at least 3 people behind the counter who were within earshot of my tele-conversation.

On the whole, it is rather average. However I think the next time I might consider staying at the Sedona which is just next door.

  • Liked — Clean and spacious + Friendly Staff + Peaceful location
  • Disliked — Lack of business facilities + disappointing breakfast
