Perhaps I got a bad room, perhaps I just got unlucky, perhaps I should've just asked for another room, but in any case this was the first terrible night of sleep I've had in my past year in Myanmar.
The reception's warm enough, the front desk people are good at what they do and they know how to receive foreigners quickly and get you to your room fast. But the rooms are victims of the clammy climate, patchwork TLC, and evident lack of any refurbishments since the hotel was opened.
The pillow, the sheets, the comforter, and even the carpet.... all smelt of poignant mildew. I took a shower in the middle of the night, went back to bed, and then woke up to rush to our car outside (showerless). Low and behold, when I arrived to Yangon 5 hours later, my wife smelt the mildew on my skin and in my hair before I had a chance to hark back at the night of fungal fury.
If they burn the sheets, bomb the pillows, rip up the carpets and bleach the bathrooms for good fun, then I'd likely come back because: the roof top eating area was a nice touch, the staff were on their game, and the location's prime. Until then though, I can't be a fan of this fury.
