“El Hana Residence, Sousse, Tunisia: The worse hotel I've ever been to!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We first were given room number number 416.

- The room had two single beds in. When we complained to reception we were told they will change the beds to a double the next morning. All they did was to push the beds together and cover it up with a bed sheet. I hurt my neck and back trying to sleep in the middle of the bed.
- Carpets looked like they have never been hovered. Floors were disgusting; we both had to keep flip flops on inside the room.
- Towels were over used and full of stains. We had to go buy two towels as the ones given were disgusting.
- Bed sheets were unclean with stains and hair on.
- Pillow cases were full of hair and bobbling from being over used.

We complained a few times to cleaners and reception who were unhelpful. On 18th July we met the director of the hotel and explained to him how we felt about the hotel and the room. He then said he would move us to the “best room” in the hotel and moved us to room number 501.

- This room was full of mosquitoes
- Air conditioning was out of order. We could hear the fan working but it didn’t cool the room at all. I think this room has not been used for weeks if not months due to this AC problem, the reason why it was full of mosquitoes. When we complained about AC, they said they will have it repaired by the evening. We went out that night and when we got back it was apparently repaired but AC was not working. They then moved us again to room number 214 at 10 in the evening. We had to pack and unpack our clothes twice, just to change rooms.
- Room 214 was same as 416. Although AC was working, room was unclean. Carpets, bed sheets, towels, shower curtain, everything was disgusting.

BATHROOM

- Water runs orange often
- We didn’t have enough hot water for two people to shower one after another. The second person had to have a cold shower.
- Shower curtain was yellow, never been cleaned.
- Shower curtain rail was full of rust.
- Toilet rolls were never replaced; I had to go ask for them all the time.

LADIES TOILET IN RECEPTION

- There were 3 toilets in the ladies. No lights were working in 2 of them. When door was closed, it was so dark that they cannot be used.
- Toilet rolls were always empty. I had to go to the room every time I wanted to use the toilet.
BAR
- Most of the all inclusive drinks that were displayed in the list were not available, in fact never available. Fruit juices or Fanta were never available. For soft drinks they only had coke and Sprites.
- Water bottles were never cold before Noon.
- Most times they run out of water and we got told they haven’t got any. It was 40 degrees most of the time and the hotel had no water for us.
- Two days before we leave, they stopped giving water bottles and only distributed plastic cups of water. If we needed water in the room, we were told to buy a bottle.
- The pool bar for all inclusive was always closed. When we were in the pool, we had to walk to the inside bar to get a drink. When we complained to the director, we were told the pool bar will be open in the next two days but until we left the pool bar was never opened.
LIFTS
- There were two lifts in front of the reception but one was always out of order until 4 days before we leave. Therefore we had to spend a lot of time waiting for the lift to arrive.
- On 13th July we both got stuck in the lift for about 25 minutes. It had 8 people in it so obviously over weight. As the second lift never works, people lose patience and all dash into the lift without looking.
My partner is diabetic and we were on the way to the room after having food in the hotel restaurant to get his insulin injection. His blood sugar level was obviously going high and wasn’t feeling well. I was under panic and got really stressed. I hardly could breathe. For the rest of our holiday we had to use the stairs as I am now worried about using a lift. I have had a knee operation done a few years ago and still have a very fragile knee. After all these walks up and down the stairs my knee got really painful and it ruined the second week of our holiday.

FOOD

- Food was horrible. All we could eat was salad.
- Only the last few days we had three choices of meat/fish. Before that it was only 2 choices and the same choices nearly every day.
- At breakfast the restaurant never had water and the bar didn’t serve water for all inclusive before 10am.
- Food buffet display was not clean; it is only clean if we have food as soon as they open.

Room Tip: Don't go to this Hotel, ever!!

“Decent hotel with guys...But do not take your girlfriend there for honeymoon.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2010

Hotel is decent quality...Rooms are decent for african / eastern european standards.......So you can stay there with guys if you dont mind about bugs ( those big black ones that come during the night....i forgot the english name...they are about 2 inch long and 1 inch wide) ....just leave the light to the washroom and you will be fine...because they are afraid of the light.

But not the best place to take your girlfriend...Workers are acting noing...They try to get money from everything.

If you have option choosing all inclusive or no meals...and if no meals is much cheaper , then choose no meals..

because meals are always same....only thing i could eat was chicken and rice everyday...my girlfriend just ate rice and peanuts from nearby store....but i was ok with my meals...but it just was not moneys worth.

also they serve soft drinks there...but they are mixed with tap water..so u will possibly get tymmy ache...somethimes they have warm bottled pop also...

First night of our stay we did not get the double bed like we were promised to.
It was dirty room, not cleaned at all, air condition only working on the level 1 out of 3. Urine in the toilet seats, lots of dust on the floor, things broken, no fridgerator or internet ( I was told that we get fridge anf there will be internet in every 3 star hotel) etc...
I tryed to ask for the new room, but hotel staff promised to get me one at the next day.
So...the next day they told me that there is non available.

I contacted our nice tour guide, who helped me politely to get the new room from the same hotel.

The new room was still not what I was told to.
It was much cleaner, the air conditioner worked on the levels 1 and 2 out of 3, no fridgerator. We did not get the double bed, but we were able to push our beds together and it was not too bad.

so....i could go there with guys but never again with girlfirend

+ hotel pool and beach is so noing..u can not relax...those guys are tryint to sell you things all the time...

“Cheap, central but dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2009
1
person found this review helpful

I think this hotel suffers much the same as many other Sousse hotels, it is bit dated and stuck in 70's time warp. Saying that it is exceptional value, paying under 10 gbp per night for half board single occupancy. Also I find the location ideal, being only 10 mins walk into centre Sousse. Rooms were clean and fresh bed linen and towels every day. Food was much same as other Sousse hotels, bit repetitive but as I mentioned for the money paid was exceptional value. Hotel is bit sterile with no evening entertainment but you can use facilities of adjoining sister hotels, El Hana Beach and Chems El Hana. I would stay there again for location and price but do bear in mind this is more closer to 3 star hotel and perhaps more suitable to single and independent minded travellers.
