“Hotel Review & General Area Stuff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

My friend and i are currently staying at the Marhaba Club resort in Sousse. We have only come for 1 week which we feel is enough for the time of year when the weather is not at its best, although obviously you cannot blame the resort for the weather! Its been warm but the wind makes it feel alot colder, glad we bought our coats, definitley not been sunbathing or in our bikinis/shorts!
Anyway, weather aside, the food selection is ok, i have been to resorts where there has been a bigger selection but the food is of a good quality and pretty much available all the time.
Alcohol is served from 8am -12pm and again is fine, they serve local vodka, wines etc as with most all inclusives. There is a 'lobby bar' which you have to pay for...i think this includes more selection of drinks...but if your all inclusive you might not want to bother. We had a bottle of wine there and it was very strong, acidic! Oh well, whatever you fancy!
Staff are friendly enough and helpful although we havent had much cause to speak with them, no issues etc
The evening entertainment is ok...we are 22 and 25...bingo is not really our thing but a laugh all the same! There is dancing, table tennis, a magic show, a light show etc plenty of selection and something new each night.
There are 2 main pools, both with bars, one with lots of slides...during our stay the sun loungers havent been out but again thats only due to the weather!
There is an indoor pool, a gym and a 'spa' you have to pay to use the sauna, the prices of massages etc are really reasonable, about £12.50 for 30 mins. Cant complain!
The room is a really decent size and clean and comfortable. The room is modern with a little bit of traditional tiling. No issues at all. Huge balcony with a nice view.
The beach is right on the resort, again, lovely, there looks to be a beach bar on the resort too which looks out onto the beach, not open this time of year.
There are also a few kids play areas.
Overall, i would highly recommend the hotel, i imagine it to be perfect in summer when the weather will allow you to use all the facilities.
There is a shopping mall directly across the road which is safe and you dont get hassled. There is also a yummmy chocolate cafe!
Taxis are outside the resort - get a price before you get in!
The port is nice, as is the Medina...you will get hassled! I have to say this can be quite scary at times, they start off with ridiculous prices for things but haggle with them right down...if you choose to leave without purchasing they get a little mad...that was abit scary.
If you are a young female, the men will start and look, it can be uncomfortable.
Also be very careful...locals will come up to you and pretend to give you advice and help then have their hands out for money...nobody seems to want to just help...they want money. Be firm and say no, keep walking. They might get mad but thats their issue.
Just be careful, people have said about being pick pocketed etc...this (so far) has not happened to us so be very aware and very careful.

“marhaba club over new year”

I decided to stay over the new year period, and had a wonderful holiday... All the staff very friendly and helpful, animation team all fun..

The food was lovely, very good choice, and no repetitive meals, and nice to see chef cooking in front of you as well..... they do like you to sit in same seats all the time, which isnt the best if you have met new friends.

Rooms more than adequate, and fresh linen each day, if I had to fault room, could do with updating, and the mini fridge could of worked.

Outside, was lovely, beautiful pools, and beach area, and weather was alot better than I ever expected... indoor pool just to crowded, but to be fair outdoor pools were freezing lol.

Hotel close to sousse, and very cheap taxis as long as you set price before you get into it... wonderful cafe opposite hotel too..

I am looking to go back to this hotel again in september and would reccommend to anyone.

Room Tip: I stayed on the first floor, which wasnt to bad, 2 lifts etc,

“Great Holiday”

Having returned from this hotel 2 weeks ago I just wanted to say what a great holiday we had. Travelling in January we weren't sure what to expect, and it was fairly quite, but was warm and sunny every day. I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Having stayed in the Golf Residence in Port Kantoui in September, i wasn t expecting much as that was dreadful, but this hotel is in a different class to that one despite having similar ratings from Thomas Cook. Great reception / lounge area, brilliant location, could easily walk into Sousse or get the noddy train either into sousse or to Port el-kantoiu, very cheap ride. Friendly helpful staff. Food ok, definately adequate, range of drinks in the all inclusive also fine. The Thomas Cook rep was great, and the animation team were also really good. Cant really fault the hotel or the staff and will definately try to return later this year.

Room Tip: we were on the ground floor just off of the reception/lounge area which was perfect for us as we had...

“Be aware which Marhaba you choose!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Here's what I liked:
The hotel has great pools, great seaside. The park is very nicely done, the building is elegant. (This is true to all Marhaba hotels, as they use the same facilities.) Also great snack bars at pools and sea. The rooms were okay, though small. Throughout our vacation we managed to get a two-roomed apartment - apparently these are available, so make sure to book these if you have such needs! Also, be aware that different Marhaba hotels have different interiors. CLUB is nice, but BEACH has awful rooms (yes, despite the praises!).
One big plus: there are no insects in the rooms!

And here's what keeps me back from going again:
We travelled 4 of us: parents and 2 big kids. We were expected to sleep in a room cca 3m x 3m, where there was a double bed, plus 1 (!) mobile bed squeezed in so tightly that we could not open the wardrobe doors. So my advice is you check before you pay, if you go in a similar setup and ask for the double room I mentioned!
I was unhappy with cleanliness (bad stains on sheets - we could usually find someone to give us new), and also things were stolen (dvds... you wouldn't put them into the safe, would you? you should!).
And I may be too European but I found the restaurant too busy. The local standard of over-heaped plates and constant screaming of Arab kids is a no-go for me... we used the snack-bars outside. One more thing about the restaurant: if you give a tip to the restaurant manager to give you a good table, it is a waste of money. Go later, and you will have a choice of free tables! Also, try to book a terrace table if you like to eat outside (at breakfast - for lunch, go to the sea!).

So although we solved most problems we had, it was tiring to do so. I want my holiday to be relaxing, and I don't want to spend so much time figuring out how we can get a room big enough to sleep in, or a meal that wasn't yet touched by an other guest or a towel that doesn't have a black footprint on.
:)

“A Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel. Firstly I must say that the food is the best we have had in an all inclusive hotel with lots of choice, variety and taste, the only thing I could say is that it could do with being a little hotter but other than that most enjoyable. The staff in the hotel are really nice & helpful, Mido from the Animation Team was a good laugh and really friendly - he nicknamed me "Sunshine" as he said that I was always smiling!

The rooms could do with updating but are very clean and the maids are always working hard. The Neptune - where the entertainment is held could do with being publicised more and signposted as it is a bit out of the way. Our only big criticism is that come the weekend the hotel had 300 locals come to stay and they took over the hotel. The restaurant was so crowded and the people that were already there could not get a look in, the locals just pushed their way in and would not queue up and everyone was getting very angry. Then the locals run amok in the evening until 5am running through the corridors smashing things up and screaming & shouting. Apparently this went on in most of the hotels over the weekend and nothing was done about it, we dont know why this was allowed to happen and spoilt the last 2 days of our holiday.

Other than that I would recommend this hotel as I take it that was a one off and doesnt happen all the time. Just beware of also walking outside the hotel as there are a lot of scams conning people out of money etc and a few people got mugged while we were there down in the Medina.
