“Lovely boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

A very nice period boutique hotel situated a couple of hundred metres from the sea front. Close to what sights there are to see in Alexandria, with restaurants and some lovely patisseries nearby. Within walking distance of main railway station. Rooms very tasteful, with period decoration. Breakfast first rate. Staff very friendly and helpful at arranging travel. Also close to shops, although they mostly seem to sell shoes ! Had a room on opposite side to the sea and there was a slight problem with traffic noise, which stopped not long after midnight. Pianist in the Lobby Bar in the evening, but bar did not seem very popular. There are other more lively bars nearby if that is what you want. Shopped around and got a very good room rate. Just a shame there is not much to do in Alexandria from a sightseeing perspective, although I'm sure its better with the sun shining (it rained most of the time I was there). Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms obviously the best and would also be quieter, but you pay the premium. Otherwise a hi...

“Beautiful, but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This hotel exudes nostalgia. The rooms iare in French Imperial style, with gilded lamps and bordeaux red bedspreads, against floral wallpaper and high ceilings. It's really quite beautiful, as are the lobby and restaurant. Quite a contrast with the dilapidated surroundings.
The location is also quite good, next to the boulevard and the tram line.
Why then not a higher rating? This is because the prices are quite high, especially by Egyptian standards, and the facilities are not of sufficient quality to justify them. The bathrooms are in need of renovation. There was no airconditioning in my room, though ----------- had suggested as much, nor any heating (and even in Alexandria winter nights can be cold). Wifi was barely functional. More than one lamp failed to work.
In addition, I was a bit miffed by being quite openly ripped off. I had booked a regular room for three nights several months before. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I arrived a day early and late at night. The desk clerk then insisted that for this one night he only had a 150 Euro suite available. I doubted the story then, as now, but I was tired and not eager to go back out into the darkness with my luggage to find a cheaper option. So I reluctantly agreed. It left me feeling stupid and annoyed. Next day, to his credit, the manager allowed me to stay in the suite for the remaining three days at the price at which I had originally booked.
If money is not your concern and you're not unsettled by lacking amenities, this hotel does offer a wonderful ambience. But there are hotels nearby with better facilities (esp. the Sofitel) and many more affordable ones.

“Le Metropole is a beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Le Metropole is a beautiful, welcoming and comfortable hotel in the middle of Alexandria. By far the best hotel we visited in Egypt. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxing. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

“A but of old world style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

As soon as we arrived at this lovely hotel we immediately regretted only booking one night.

A fresh cool welcome drink, polite, professional, reception and concierge staff, and a beautiful old world feel give you a fabulous first impression of this hotel.

The room we were given was huge and comfortable, with a nice bathroom, safe, flat screen satellite tv, good AC, and complimentary welcome nibbles.

Breakfast was included and was served in a lovely room with a good variety of choice in the breakfast buffet.

Location is excellent, right in the centre if things just off the corniche and a short taxi ride from all the main attractions.

All in all a great stay - we can't fault this hotel at all!!

“I liked it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I stayed here for one night. Very different to more corporate hotels - had a real sense of old grandeur - perhaps a bit tired around the edges but it was still very memorable. When I stayed the demonstrations were camped directly outside the hotel - but I had no problems and if nothing else proved the hotel is 'central'...
