I have travelled to many places inside and outside Egypt, and never once did i feel the urge to write a review; whether a good or a bad review. I was actually encouraged to write this review when i was going through reviews on marsa alam hotels as i am planning for a snorkeling and relaxation week there this month. I felt i am really obliged to warn people from this place though i have been there almost two years ago.
Hotels in Alexandria are generally not up to their stars, they are far inferior to hotels in most destinations in Egypt. I have travelled to almost every city in Egypt and I found Alexandria's hotels to be over priced and poorer in service and quality. However, it is one thing to be "poorer" and it is totally another to be a hell hole. So here goes my review and sincerely I advise you not to go there if you are western or if you are a middle-eastern accustomed to travelling a lot. If you don’t travel a lot, then you might find this hotel satisfactory.
Hotel: In general small, but has potential.
Beach: Nice
Pool: Nice but was not open for some reason
Rooms: excruciatingly noisy. I heard almost every word of the conversation between the two guys in the next room. We actually complained about room cleanliness and they had us rewarded by moving us to this not-much-cleaner room with an almost-non-working air conditioning and noisy room.
Staff: Very rude, the most rude staff I have ever seen in my travels. They lied to us about the rates on the phone, and when we arrived they told us it was a misunderstanding from our side though the one-night up-front deposit we paid before we arrive was according to the price they stated on the phone not according to the price they mentioned when we arrived. They are extremely unhelpful and unprofessional, I assume they are almost non-trained and they do not actually understand what service and hospitality mean.
The best is yet to come; I got robbed on the beach. My shawl was stolen and the manager had the nerve to tell me that as far it was not stolen from my room then it was stolen from a public place and he cannot do anything about it. I really did love that shawl and my mother gave it to me, so this hotel is associated with bad feelings in my memory. By the way, after an hour and a half negotiation about seeing the manager and an hour of wait he finally showed up; you can now understand how staff members are acting as they please since there is no leadership whatsoever.
The staff almost begged all the time for tips, we were harassed by the people responsible for the parking for tips and they always stayed very close to us when we tried to park and stared rudely at us in the hope that we would give them tips to have them go away. On our second morning my husband found the car washed and the parking guy insisted that my husband pays him for this unrequested service.
After the so many unfortunate events encountered on the first day, we tried to check out but since we paid the whole money of the stay when we first arrived, they refused to give us our money back and we were stuck in that hell hole for the rest of our anniversary weekend.
On the second day and after several complaints to the manager about all the issues we faced, he tried to insincerely make up for all these misfortunes that occurred in the duration of a two-day, two-night stay by treating us to a free dinner but we refused. We hated the hotel so much that we didn’t want to eat in it and we wanted to minimize our stay there as much as we can.
I actually stayed in three stars and four starts hotels in many places in Egypt like port said, Ismailia, Siwa, etc but these hotels were much much better than this so called 4-stars hotel (including several three stars hotels). I wouldn’t give it a 1 star if it was up to me.
