The Dana is situated in the overcrowded and grotty resort of Venus on the Black Sea coast. It claims a 4 star rating. 3 would be generous by any normal standards. The grounds of the hotel are green and attractive. The standard rooms are apparently good but the apartments are seriously in need of refurbishment. Bathrooms are old and dirty. Kitchen looks like an accident waiting to happen with ancient and rusty gas bottle hob. Major drawback of the hotel (and the resort and Romania in general) is the booming music played everywhere from 8 in the morning until midnight. Despite having no customers after 9 pm the pool bar supervisor refused to turn the music down until midnight. Even if you like loud music, you might get bored because they only appeared to have 3 CD's. Food decidedly average. Breakfast service chaotic. Pool was OK but not ideal for kids (min depth 1.7m). No lifesaving equipment evident. We escaped most days over the border into Bulgaria for time on their remote, peaceful and virtually empty beaches.
