The Montana cost 50 Euros per night and was located on a hill overlooking Brasov town centre. To get down to the town, you can either take some slightly scary steps or a slightly longer way down without steps - it only takes about 10 minutes from the hotel.
The room itself was reasonably spacious and had a fridge and TV – no hairdryer or air conditioning. We discovered after the first night that having the windows open was not an option as we were bitten quite heavily by mosquitoes. So, the remaining nights were very uncomfortable and we didn’t get much sleep.
The shower also caused an immense sense of frustration as the shower head was fixed directly to the wall and it was difficult to manoeuvre it to adequately wash yourself. The towels provided were very rough and a bit smelly.
Breakfast was a cheap and slightly odd affair. The best part was the charming housekeeper who spoke no English but she endeavoured to get her message across.
If you are planning to come to Brasov for more than 2 or 3 days or are on a romantic getaway, I would suggest you look elsewhere for accommodation. The Bella Musica hotel located in the centre has rooms for only 16 Euros more per night. However, if you’re only in Brasov for 1 or 2 days and/or are planning to drive out to the surrounding areas, then the Montana is a good bet – just don’t expect too much!
We were able to park our hire car in front of the hotel for free.
Dr Fodor (the owner) prefers payment in cash.
