“Good value for money, we'll go back.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2010

The reason we wanted to stay here was to be close to family, having read the previous reviews we were very unsure if we had made the right decision. On arrival we found that there are major extension works being carried out to the hotel and we were worried about the noise and discomfort it could cause. The recepionist told us the works would not interfere with out stay, this was backed up by the owner who came out to greet us and confirm that any noisy work is carried out after guests have left in the morning.
The room was very clean and large, everything was working and secure. The bathroom was one of the largest I have been in a hotel. The bed was king size and very comfortable with good quality linen. The hotel is set back from Calea Bucuresti, the main road in from Bucharest and is busy, this would be the only down side I would mention.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, at breakfast the food was always freshly prepared and served with a smile.

The owner can be proud of his staff who made us welcome and feel at home all the time, it was so pleasing to find staff who always had a smile for us.
Although you will need a taxi or bus to the centre of Brasov. there are taxis and bus stops almost outside the hotel, together with the local market at 10 minute walk and the large stores, Kaufland & Carrefour nearby.

“A lot of improuvements to do”

I needed a room to stay for the night as I went on a bussiness trip in Brasov, and as they had no single rooms free, I got a double room and I was charged for 2 persons. Let's forget that one Euro's value is significantly higher than anywhere else. Going back in my room to get my things after breakfast, the cleaning service was there, although it was 9.15, so I had no more towels, or soap. The rest was ok, but I suggest trying something different when going to Brasov.

“value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2005

I arrived very few days after the german guy has spent his "brave night" there. It could be that his complaints sorted the right effect, since: a) the music in the restaurant was pretty low volume; b) the receptionists and all the waiters and waitresses were polite and friendly. Yeah! the shower lickage was in place, but they repaired it.
I asked a room with (free) internet facility, and they moved me from 2nd floor to 1st in no time.
What else to say? No doubt the place is value for money.

“Quite incompetent”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2005

Hotel Oliver was only recently opened. So the rooms were very new and looked nice.

The bad thing, however, was that the shower was leaking. So the whole bathroom was under water. That can happen to any hotel, of couse. So we complained and they promised to "take care of it".

Breakfast was a complete disappointment. Staff was listening to a local radio at discotheque volume, we had to shout if we wanted to speak to each other. Still worse, the local station started with an annoying fake telephone call programme which continued for all the time of our breakfast.

When we went back to our room we discovered that "taking care" just meant cleaning up. My friend had showered before, then it was my turn, and everything was under water again. We immediately asked for another room. The reception lady answered that this is not possible without her boss's consent, and he was not in at this time.

Thus, we immediately checked out. This hotel could be great if it weren't for the abominable breakfast restaurant atmosphere and the reception that cannot even change rooms if there's trouble.

However, we did like the fenced and guarded parking. If you travel by car, hotel oliver might be for you.
