This hotel was one of the main disappointments in an otherwise fantastic trip to Romania and took the shine off Brasov (although the city still had the charm to make up for that.)

The rooms were old and threadbare, which isn't a problem for me, except when you pay for much more. In terms of value for money, I'd put this as one of the worst places I've been.

We had terrible trouble every day with the hotel trying to show that we hadn't paid for things that we had. Although each time things were settled in our favour, it didn't stop the same thing happening the next day.

My main regret is that we had paid in advance so were a bit stuck in terms of other options. The best part of the stay was the time we spent outside the hotel.

I suppose it really depends what you want and your own personal expectations. On my visit I'd spent a few nights "roughing it" in the Cabanas in the Bucegi Mountains, so a hotel was a welcome change. I chose this hotel purely and simply on price and location and was already aware not to expect too much luxury. The rooms are large (Soviet style) and OK a little dated, but perfectly habitable, clean and comfirtable for a couple of nights stay. The hotel is close to the main square, so going for a wander and exploring Brasov is easy from here. With Brasov having a wide choice of restaurants and bars the hotel was merely somewhere to sleep, although breakfast was OK. Staff were helpful, if not reserved, but this is Romania and a mixture of the old and the new. I suppose if you want the slick western european style of hotel, then this hotel is not for you. But, if you're a little bolder and on a budget then the hotel is more than fine and reasonable value for money by Brasov standards.

My two daughters and I stayed at the Hotel Coroana for a few days in August 2007.The only positive comments I can make are that the hotel reception staff were helpful when we needed directions and that the hotel is situated in the centre of Brasov. We were given a large room with twin beds and a bed settee, all equally old and uncomfortable, with bedding that was also long past it's best. It all had the appearance of being old and grubby.The large bathroom was adequate however the bath had been repainted and was scratched and peeling making it very uninviting. Included in the price was breakfast however this seemed totally unorganised with very little on offer. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel, even for a two star hotel I would expect better than this.
