“Golden Tulip Varna - one of the best hotels in the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

I have spent several days in Golden Tulip Varna in the end of August 2010. It is a relatively new 4-star-hotel with 85 rooms and 5 apartments - built in 2003 and was formerly known as Business Hotel Varna (before joining the Golden Tulip chain in the beginning of 2006). The hotel has a great location - it is situated in the city center, several minutes way walking from the pedestrian zone and the famous cathedral of Varna. The rooms are cosy and clean, the staff is very professional, friendly and responsive, it has nice conference facilities with 3 halls (for 25, 55 and 120 people). The reception price per room is about 80 Euro (I strongly advise you to do the booking online or through a travelling agency - it would be significantly lower!) and includes also a breakfast (tasty, but lacking variety), free parking and free WiFi Internet access in the entire hotel. You are given a 10% discount coupon for the hotel restaurant and the mini bar once you check in. In general this is one of the best hotels in Varna, there are only two things that I have found strange or dislike -the parking is quite strange though and not very big enough for such a hotel (you are allowed to park in front of the hotel only for check-in and check-out), the other thing that I didn't like is that I haven't been awared my OK Plus frequent flyer miles as it has been advertised on their site, because I haven't paid at the reception, but by bank transfer...

“Lovely friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable”

I felt the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. When I asked for information about Varna, the reception staff pulled out a complimentary map and showed us routes and checked local bus information for us. There is a business complex on the first floor with free internet use - just ask to use it.

“Very clean, roomy and with efficient and pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

Writing from the hotel room - 8th floor and will stay here for one week. I didn't look at other hotels because my meetings are happening here and the price was very good. The room, lobby etc are very big and spotless. There are not a lot of luxury paintings on the walls or flat screen tv and so on but has all the necessary things and everything works very well. There is a wardrobe but, as we are staying one week, we could do with some drawers for more storage room. It could have a safe as well. The staff is very friendly and efficient - they attend to guests requests very quickly. Free wireless (unsecure) and small fitness unit. The hotel also has jacuzzi (not working at the moment), sauna and massage - all paid extra. Breakfast is reasonable with some fresh fruits, juice, cereals, bread, cake, the usual cooked stuff (not kept very warm) plus cold cuts of cheese and meats. As in any other meal we had in Varna, you will find also cucumber and peppers for breakfast! The location is good, very close to the Opera and pedestrian area. The view from the room is not that great (see the photo) and even from the 8th floor with windows closed it's a bit noisy due to the busy road - traffic starts to get intense very early and can wake you up if you have a light sleep. Overall has been a pleasant experience and I would recommend the hotel. However I cannot comment on how this one compares to others in the city.

“Give it a miss”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2009

The hotel advertises itself as a business hotel and claims that it was built in 2003 which seems unlikely if one looks at the very dull and old fashioned furniture in the rooms . The rooms lack internet which is only available in the rather small lobby. My room had a rather dirty carpet that I was reluctant to walk on in my bare feet. TV stations were very limited. Breakfast was rather poor. Though the hotel was mostly empty they would not give me a late checkout to 2.00 pm. The location is ok but I'm sure that there are better hotels in Varna. In short, though my experience was not terrible I would give this hotel a miss next time.
