We were attracted to the Palace Hotel by the 5 star rating and its promise of relaxation. How wrong. Arrived at the hotel around 3am on a Sunday morning. Our room was vibrating to the sound of disco music from the wedding below. We were informed by reception that this was unusual and should not happen again. It did the next night and every weekend we were there.
The hotel looks magnificent. The cocktail and lobby bar was wonderful with great staff. Our room was very well maintaind by the cleaners. However it all went down hill with the buffet restaurant. The food was awful (instant mashed potatoe anyone) with the staff left directionless. Tables were not relaid and one had to scramble for a table, cutlery and a drink. It did not help that the restaurant roof leaked during the two weeks, with strategically based pot plants and buckets catching the water. It was only after someone did fall that the hotel decided to cordon the area off. The management appeared indifferent to the situation. 5 star it was not and we would never return.
It was a very disappointing experience and it was only another nice couple who kept us sane during the second week.
