We stayed at the Hotel Berkut during our visit to the Bulgarian International Air Festival. The hotel is situated on a mountainside, far from all the noise of Plovdiv. Having a car is a must, but taxis are quite cheap, so they could be an alternative.
Getting there is the difficult part (the village of Brestnik is close to the Municipality of Kuklen, close to the airport, this info could come handy to find your way).
The staff is great, they go to great efforts to ensure that every guest is satisfied.
The rooms are great. All enjoy great views. They are spacious, air conditioned and the minibar is very affordable. The shower is good, and everything in the room is very clean.
The restaurant offers amazing food at very good value, and the wine selection is excellent. You can eat inside or al fresco, which is highly recommended in the summer evenings.
Families with children can enjoy a meal al fresco, whilst the kids are enjoying themselves in a play area just beside them.
Breakfast is an acquired taste really. Expect a plate of assorted pastries, cottage cheese, a hard-boiled or a fried egg, and some fruit, together with coffee and fruit juice. The coffee is of very good quality, and the breakfast was good enough to see us through most of the day.
But the very best thing about the Berkut is its staff. Never mind the star rating, these people open the door for you, speak very good English and help you in any way they can. The receptionist was even kind enough to program our Satnav for us when we went for a road-trip excursion! (Thanks Cveti!)
I will definitely return, and recommend this place to anyone.
