For starter be aware of the double pricing. The price for locals is half of the price displayed at reception. My wife is Bulgarian, she made the reservation by phone for a double room but when we arrived we had few unpleasant surprises.
First, they forgot the reservation, but as the hotel was almost empty, this was fixed immediately. Mind that if you travel during the international fair taking place in Plovdiv, this may become a problem.
Second, as I am not Bulgarian we were both invoiced with the reception list price, even on the phone they told us a price 2 times lower for the same room type.
Third, when we received the invoice we noticed that even we have payed the double room at reception prices I was charged at a different price than my wife. When she asked why is so and what means the insurance fee included in the total amount, the receptionist did not even bother to answer, she took the invoice an had it torn in front of our eyes. She printed again the invoice with the same amount but without details and gave it to us (in a way that was closer to throwing).
The restaurant keeps alive the atmosphere of the old socialistic era and the waiters most probably are the same since then. My advice is to use the nice downtown restaurants.
Overall, I would not stay at Park Hotel Sankt Petersburg even it would be the last hotel in Plovdiv with avaliable rooms. I would rather drive 1.5 hrs to Sofia and sleep there. On the other hand, if rooms available, I highly recommend Novotel Hotel Plovdiv, wich provided much nicer experience while we stayed there.
