“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

I really enjoyed my stay at this wonderful hotel. The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Kotor. The hotel provides free parking just outside of the city walls. The breakfast buffet is very good. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious even by American standards. The toiletries provided are of high quality. I loved the massive shower head in the bathroom. I was not bothered by the outside noise as some reviewers have complained but maybe because some of the clubs stopped operating in September. Walking through the square at 11pm at night, I did not hear any music blaring from the cafes and bars. I recommend eating dinner at Cesarica, (close to Hotel Marja in the Old Town). We ate there the first night and it was very good and cheap. The second night we ate at Galion which the hotel recommended and it seems that the hotel also owns it. I think the food was only ok. It does have a nice view of the old city but the food was nothing to write home about it. I thought my squid ink risotto was bland and my friend’s grilled squid was also bland. The grilled squid at Cesarica was much better.

“Beautiful room, in the heart of the old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Hotel sems to have been recently refurbished. My room was gorgeous, with two small balconies. The bathroom was also large and beautifully decorated. Good selection of toiletries available, plus robe and slippers. The bed was comfortable and huge. Very good selection of tv channels available (news, original series in English with subtitles). The hotel restaurant was nice, although the night I was there was very busy, so the service took a little longer than I would have liked, however when it arrived, the food was very nice. Lots of other alternative restaurants nearby, as this is in the walls of old town. A small shopping centre a couple of blocks away that had a beauty shop/pharmacy and a grocery store. Breakfast was good, all cold items on display and if you wanted something hot (eggs, bacon) you could order this. Good value for money, and I would go to this hotel again, on vacation, wtih my family.

“Good location, comfortable rooms and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Well situated in the Old Town, the hotel has a nice terrace opening out onto the main square. The rooms were relatively large and very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful which was appreciated as Kotor is not as solo traveller friendly as was my previous destination of Dubrovnik. The breakfast was enjoyable albeit a little unusual in comparison to your average spread, agreeable to my palate however. There was wifi in the public areas, including the terrace so it was nice to be able to enjoy a drink on the square whilst surfing. The small but adequately equipped fitness centre was in the same room as where the massages took place so on a few occasions I could not use it whilst there were treatments happening. My stay was during the weekend in August that coinciding with the annual Boka Night, so as I expected, there was loud music being played in the square until fairly late at night. However, I did not find the noise that much of a problem since my room was not overlooking the main square (although I have to confess to having consumed several glasses of Loza). Kotor is a charming place and nearby Perast is rather magical, a visit is highly recommended as is the Hotel Vardar.

“Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Just returned from Montenegro, and chose this hotel for 4 nights.
The hotel itself is really nice, well-located, well-furnished, nice staff.
But there are few things I want to tell about - it was a bit dark in the room through all the day, i.e. when you wake up at 8 AM, it seems it's cloudy or even rainy outside, but of course it's not-)
I did not feel noise, except couple of times when tourists passed by shouting smth-) No loud music, nothing like that. So, it seems that if the windows in your room do not look at the main square, everything is OK.
I also want to say that it seems strange that the rooms are usually not ready by check-in time (2 PM), sometimes even longer. I arrived at 3 PM, but my room was not finished, so I was given another one. For the 4 star hotel cleaning rooms from 9 AM to 6 PM is a bit strange. One day I came back at around 4 PM, and the room was not ready-)
About breaksfasts - if you do not like to get up early - you will never eat well there! The first day I appeared at the breakfast at 9-30, and there was almost nothing to eat! No butter, no fruits, no eggs; just some bread, some cheese and ham, and... that's all! I was shocked-) After that I had breakfast for 3 euro in the nearest cafe - it was very tasty-)) One day I wake up earlier than usual, and... miracle, there was everything - lots of fruits, hot meals, different cakes, vegetables... All this seems to be strange, there are only 20 rooms in this hotel, but if you are later than 8-30 for breakfast, you will leave hungry-)
I would also be happy to have a bottle of pure water in the room. Why there is nothing like that while the rooms are so cosy, I also do not understand.
I think that for more than 100 euro per night you can get better service, can't you?

“Good location but a bit overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

When we made the reservation I was very excited. However, when we arrived I was slightly disappointed. The location is great and the building wonderfully renovated. It also has a wonderful terrace overlooking the main gate of the city. However, the rooms are a bit small and dark, and it can be really noisy at nights.

Overall OK place to spend a couple of nights. Very clean hotel and helpful front desk. But I wouldn't stay there again. It seemed to me a bit overpriced.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the third floor
