“A bittersweet review”

A superb boutique hotel in stunningly beautiful Old Town Kotor. However, if you actually intend to sleep on a weekend night, you should probably stay someplace else. I stayed for two nights recently during a business visit to Kotor. The hotel is a beautiful, restored family 'palace' several hundred years old. Furnishings are new, bathrooms and fixtures are excellent, staff are professional, pleasant, and helpful, and the surrounding marble walkways and 'streets' are terrific to walk around - no cars. Take note that you must walk about 200 meters to the entrance of the old town for taxis - which may pose a problem for those with a lot of luggage. My first night was without problems - very quiet and restful. Breakfasts served are minimal, but OK. During the afternoon prior to my second night the front desk told me that I should come down to the bar and listen to a local musician play at about 10 p.m. This was a Friday night. I should have sensed a problem! When I returned to the hotel at around 10:30 p.m. he was already playing and the volume was simply deafening at the front desk - adjacent to the bar but separated by a wall. The girl at the front desk looked at me apologetically and answered the question she knew I was about to ask - 'He should be done by midnight'. When I got up to my room the volume was slightly less than downstairs, but still loud enough to cause a glass of water to shake. I called down to the desk and told them this was ridiculous but they could not hear me over the noise. I asked her to contact the manager to get then to honor their commitment to their hotel guests and not just those in the bar, but the manager had already gone home and, when reached on the phone he said there was nothing he could do. Midnight came and went but the music continued. I called down two more times but nothing could be done as 'people in the bar wanted to hear more' - so much for caring about hotel guests. It stopped sometime around 1 a.m. I had to be up and gone by 6 a.m. for a flight. The front desk girl was very apologetic and I believed she had tried to assist, but management would not. I demanded to not be charged for the second night and she agreed - saying she hoped I would return. This could be such a great find if not for this conflict of issues! Ratings below vary between excellent for front desk to non-existent from management.

Room Tip: Find out if there will be live entertainment in the bar / restaurant during the time you're plan...

“Excellent service, beautiful rooms”

The hotel is beautifully located in the old town of Kotor with very nice and comfortable rooms. Excellent staff, caring and professional. Very nice bar and restaurant - although the food is maybe a little boring. Our breakfast nevertheless was excellent - no buffet but à la carte. And: breakfast is served until 1 pm. Fair room prices for what they offer. We will definitely return.

“A good choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Stayed here for one night, even though Kotor old town is fairly small and can be seen in just a few hours, so it was perhaps a little extravagant to stay here after moving from another coastal location in Montenegro, but we were pleased we did.

The hotel is very small (12 rooms?) but easy to find in the old town. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful, but did fail to tell us that we could have got free parking in a car park just outside the old town. We was told this by another receptionist on checking out, but it was too late by then.

The room was smart, quite small (to be expected at a hotel in the old town?) but with quality furniture, fittings, TV & bed.

Shower was good and the tap in the bathroom sink, like a waterfall rather than a tap, interesting (Perhaps I'm too easily impressed!). The bed very big and very comfortable.

Stayed here slightly out of season so didn't have the window open but could here the background noice from a bar about 20 metres away, but it was background noise and it didnt stop us getting to sleep.

Breakfast was served in the adjoining restaurant (between 7.00am to 1.00pm !) and while you make your choice from the menu it means you dont get the wide selection you might otherwise get from a buffet breakfast, the quality was extremely good. Looking back if we had known the breakfast was going to be that good we would have probably eaten in the restaurant the preceeding night.

Internet was free and very quick

Would recommend.

Kotor has a fantastic location at the end of the bay, and the old town interesting, but make sure you save enought time to climb the fortress up the side of the mountain behind the old town. Well worth the effort.

“Wow!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

If you're actually staying in Kotor and not just a cruise ship day tripper, you must stay here. A more charming hotel you would be hard pressed to find. My wife and I stayed there for our wedding anniversary and could not have made a better choice. The rooms are spacious, lovely, and spotlessly clean. The staff is top notch as is the location in the old town. We stayed at another Astoria property in Budva and it was fantastic too. If you are in Montenegro, do yourself a favor and check out this boutique pair.

“Excellent Service, spotlessly clean, friendliest hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

I had the pleasure of staying in this small, boutique hotel in the old town of Kotor.

During my off-peak stay I found the service to be extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the hotel room was spotlessly clean.

I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: Ask for a rear room if you want it to be extra quiet.
