“A Castle Indeed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

The hotel is located in a villa built in the beginning of the 20th century & really looks like a small castle. The rooms are huge with big windows, high ceilings, large bathrooms & have a retro look. By retro I mean only the decor - the pieces of furniture and the rooms themselves are well-maintained and new. In fact the hotel doesn't look Eastern European at all, on contrary it gives you a feeling of a little palace indeed. There's a fridge, a TV set & a phone in the room. The bed was comfy & the bathroom great. All the necessary bathroom amenities & bottles of drinking water were provided daily. There's a free Wi-Fi in the room either. Breakfasts were good, though nothing special. Yet coffee was excellent I must admit. Having a cup of coffee on the terrace was very enjoyable. The terrace is located in the beautiful courtyard with pine trees and flowers. The staff was very friendly & helpful, check-in and check-out was very easy and fast. The hotel is located in the very quite and prestigious neighborhood. The center of the city is within 15 minutes walking distance. I liked the hotel a lot - especially it's authentic atmosphere, it's amazing courtyard & it's serenity. I would stay there no doubt with great pleasure again. Though I must admit there are some minor drawbacks regarding the hotel. Since the hotel is a stone building it is very cold in the room, just like it should be in the real castle I suppose. There's a portable radiator in the room, but given the size of the room, it is not much help. So I think a more upgraded heating system would be very relevant here. I also feel that having more facilities in the room such as a coffee-maker, a safebox and an iron with ironing board would have been great.

“Oasis in a Cold Former Soviet State”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2009

We LOVED this place! We got room #1 in the Castle, which was gorgeous old mansion. Room huge, great new bed, new bathroom (though something retro about the whole room). Lots of extra blankets, feather pillows, towels. Fabulous breakfast in lovely restaurant. Very kind staff who spoke English--totally different than our experiences with people in other parts of Ukraine. Uphill 1 mile+ walk from train station and town but beautiful neighborhoods.

“Probably one of the best choices in L'viv”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2009

L'viv is surely a charismatic city which is still not yet spoiled by tourism as well as many other eastern cities nowadays, so it was quite hard to search through the net (before our departure) a good place to stay for 4 days.
Fortunately, for the fact that since many years I'm nutty of traveling and making reservation on my own, we sort things out well!
Lion's Castle or Zamok Leva is a neogothic villa situated in a residential district near L'viv centre (you can reach city centre by feet, or also by taxi. We found taxis very cheap if compared to italian ones!!).
Rooms are spacious, quiet, clean but not sophisticated... may we say charming??
Breakfast buffet is not really huge, but they also offer tasty cheese pancakes or eggs and bacon.
If you're not in a hurry and you don't like expensive hotels downtown, this is surely a very good choice.

“Interesting security”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2009

The "Austrian" room we had in the annexe was a little exspensive
for what was not much more than student accomodation. Breakfast was good.
We were fascinated by the numerous police/soldiers that roamed the grounds
all night, some armed with trungeons others with automatic weapons - I think they
were guarding a government ministers very posh house next door. At least we felt safe - I think !!

“Quiet and Relaxing Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2009

I had a bright room nicely furnished and very quiet due to the double glazing. The staff was quite helpful with directions and ideas for nearby travel. The room was clean. Breakfast service was attentive with a choice of a number of hot dishes. Some will enjoy the ice cream served with "breakfast dessert".
If you will need internet access, check in advance to get the right room!
