“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Surely one of the best hotels in Lviv. Great location, and friendly staff at the Reception (which is actually rare in this part of the world). Rooms clean, standard rooms a little on the smaller side, but still ok. Only really downside is the breakfast restaurant. Small room with a very loud TV, and the food...... well very very dissapointing. There is a McD 50 meters down the road, so i will probably have my breakfast there next time.

“Light Opera”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

Like Lviv itself, this hotel combines features of wonderful charm and delight with moments of bewildering incompetence. Contrary to some early reviews of the Opera, we found the front desk staff fluent in English, well informed and very helpful. On arrival, I was greeted by name as I approached the front desk -- apparently the only American-oid visitor expected that day. The other main advantage is a convenient location.
The rooms are newly furnished, and not uniform, reflecting the restoration of an historic building. But there is something "off" about them. Mine had two tiny closets at opposite ends of the room, and no where to put a laptop - although relatively reliable wi-fi was happily free.
The breakfast was ordinary; the lobby is dark and bare, and I did not find any fitness center or exercise option. This is a functional, well-located and dependable place,well-restored but not truly of international standard.

“Thanks for a great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

The service from those manning the front desk was great. They were very pleasant, and I received everything I asked for in a timely manner...wake-up calls, extra water, etc.

The room was comfortable and a bit larger than some of the European hotels that I've stayed in. The only downside for me was the shower...it took some experimentation to get the shower to cooperate with a consisent temperature (if I turned the water on too much it would fluctuate from scalding hot to freezing cold every 5 seconds, but if I barely turned it on, I could get a pretty consistent temperature). I found the bed comfortable and appreciated the bottled water that was left for me each day. There were only a couple of English television stations, but I really didn't mind since there was free internet access in my room.

The rooftop bar has a great view and is a nice place to hang out on a sunny day. The location can't be beat---right across from the Opera House of course but also in a great area for walking in the city.

Overall, a great stay and I would recommend this hotel to other travelers.

“User friendly, business like atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

We found the reception desk clerks very helpful and friendly, also English speaking. We were also impressed at their attitudes since they seem to work 24hr shifts! The hotel is quite clean. Compared to the Grand Hotel, the service is better but the ambience is newer, modern, more business- like and to our taste, less attractive.
We didn't get to experience the roof-top restaurant as the evening we wanted to go they were having a private party. The downstairs restaurant is not appealing, it feels like a hospital cafeteria. Only breakfast is served there. The breakfast was not as nice as at the Grand Hotel, neither in surroundings nor food quality.
The wireless service was available in the lobby and in the downstairs breakfast room. We were lent a USB cord by the reception desk and had good internet service in our room.
Our bathroom had only a small shower, not the nice tub we had at the Grand Hotel. Our room was somewhat smaller than at the Grand also. But the bath products were free and we had a mini-bar fridge.
We also missed having a bar conveniently located off the lobby as they have at the Grand Hotel. Hotel Opera will serve coffee and tea in the lobby, but it isn't a very pleasant place to hang out, as said before, kind of cold, modern and business-like.

“Perfect location, nice hotel, acceptable staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2008

Great location to be able to walk to most of the key Lviv sights -- right on the main square across from its namesake Opera House. Rooms are acceptable. Breakfast (included with room) was par for the course in Ukraine -- not stellar but enough to get you going in the morning. Luckily lots of good coffee nearby! As some of the other reviewers have noted, the staff is not top notch -- at least in western eyes. This is mainly because the standard of service in Ukraine is not up to Western Europe -- they tend to be unsmiling and bureaucratic. Although the Opera certainly beat some of the staff we saw Kiev! But it is possible to find better service in Lviv (as we did at the Grand -- just down the street). Net net is nothing wrong with this hotel, although if you can get it for roughly the same price, I'd recommend the grand instead which has nicer rooms, nicer staff (with much better English), and a better breakfast.
