“Hotel extraordinaire in an extrodinary town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Citadel Inn looks absoloutly marverlous with its round shape and vauled ceiliengs. Room very spacous and nicely furnished. The bathroom was surprisingly small and one could perhabs expect a bath tub. It was a rather cold too, but nicely equiped with morning robe, vanity kit, shampoo etc. The girls at the desk were very friendly and accomodating. Breakfast was exccelent on the top floor with view to the town. The hotel is situated on a hill a little outside the city center.

“Splendour, luxury and terror in an old fortress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

The setting of this hotel is truly magnificent; perched on a hill overlooking the city among parkland and ruins, you are instantly transported centuries back to the Principality of Galicia. The property is a mid 19th century military fortress, which was also used as a prison during the German occupation of Lviv during WWII. The walls are thick with history.

However it's renovation as a luxury hotel has revived its glory. There is nothing like it in Lviv, maybe not even in the rest of Europe. The building has beed carefully restored and decorated preserving all the grandeur of the original structure.

There are only 26 rooms. The standards are a good size and plenty of breathing space thanks to the high ceilings. The furnishings are of heavy wood but tasteful, suitable to the space they occupy.

Unfortunately the double bed, although large enough, was made up of two mattresses, which led to a bit of sliding around and discomfort. Both my husband and I hated the pillows, filled with synthetic foam. I felt like my head was bouncing around all night. This is something the hotel should look into replacing.

The room offered little amenities for what the hotel claims to be a 5-star property. There was no coffee/tea maker in the room, which I would have appreciated on account of having a cold. I consider this a standard, but this is not the case in Ukraine. However, there was a minibar and complimentary bottled water.

The shower and toilet were separate, useful when you're sharing the room and common in Ukraine.

Our room rate included a first-rate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, with a splendid view of the city. And access to the sauna, which we took advantage of the morning of our departure. Since we booked ahead we were the only ones using it, an intimate and relaxing experience.

The gems in this crown were the staff, all of whom were warm, friendly and helpful. They made us feel like royalty and that's what makes the difference among high-end properties in Lviv.

The hotel is a short walk form the centre, a good reason for a walk after the customarily large Ukrainian meals.

“Superior Hotel in Lviv”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

An exquisitely designed hotel offering a good service, spacious rooms and an historic atmosphere with its circular build of a perfectly restored fortress. Service was good, and facilities decent. The only downside is that it is located slightly off centre - a good 15 minute walk. However definitely the best choice as taxis are cheap and abundant and the adjacent grounds also offer a nice morning or afternoon stroll

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

I’m regularly in L'viv and know some hotels in this city and I was therefore very very positively surprised by this very nice hotel.
Excellent and quiet rooms, friendly people and perfect service, very nice restaurant, nice view and the very old historical but perfectly renovated circular building is an eye catcher on its own.
just read some details about the history in the other comments

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Everything about this hotel truly is breathtaking. The hotel sits, perched, above the lovely city of L'viv. The decor takes into it's history as a place that protected the inhabitants at one time, as there are bullet holes on the wall, and so in the decor they use cannon, but as vases and artistic pieces. The rooms are well appointed, and luxurious, but it was the staff....they were amazingly helpful to us. We had a flat tire on the way in, as Ukrainian roads are terrible, and they got help to us, and were there through every step. That's service! The facilities are gorgeous, and while it is a bit of a walk to city center, it's worth it.

You have breakfast in the restaurat, which is on the third floor, and it was delicious. They will make omelettes, they brought fresh squeezed orange juice to the table, and the view from the restaurant was beautiful.

Wifi is available in public areas, and in the room you can have internet with the use of a cable.

The grounds are beautiful and there is secure parking on the premisis.

My little dog, a Scottish Terrier named, Maggie Mae, found the hotel very much to her liking.

Room Tip: They are *all* good rooms!
