I stayed at Solaris Ivan for 2 nights. This is supposed to be the best of the 5 hotels in the Solaris complex. No doubt the location is nice but the hotel itself needs some renovation on the outside looking and in the rooms which are run- out.
The entrance, the reception area as well as the ground floor restaurant are ok, the latter is big to accommodate several hundreds of guests.
We had a kind of apartment on the second floor with two separate ambiences, one with sofa set and TV (old) and another with bed. The room was partly renovated like the bathroom but every door in the room was clearly old, there was a mildew smell in the room which anyone, including the room’s maid, could notice upon entering the door, perhaps this could be fixed with some deodorant spray.
The room was serviced once a day but not all towels were changed nor soap replenished, as well as drinks in the mini-bar were not replenished. The lift was small and slow. Rating for room, service and lift would be hardly 3*.
The breakfast was nothing exceptional, they hv to feed 500 /700 guests so quality was not fantastic, for 2 days it is ok but not for longer stay.
We went to the hotel beach and we had to pay for beach towel rent (Kune 10/towel/day), it is the first time this happens to me as in any other hotel I stayed, beach towels are given free or against a refundable deposit or worst case not available at all but never experienced to rent for a towel! Anyhow this explains why some other guests were taking the room’s towels to the beach, it was to avoid the charge. The beach sun beds were also for rent (Kuna 30 per sun bed). Various shops in the complex were not accepting to charge the room for the purchases, reason is better known to them but not having cash on us while on the beach they missed out the opportunity to sell to us. Beside this, the Dalmatian village is great, we had one dinner there and must admit food was better than expected. Also the Legend disco/bar by the beach was fabulous, we spend our 2 late evenings there and we really enjoyed.
On checking out, the queue was extremely long, it took no less than 30 minutes for checking out.
Solaris is a huge complex and consequently there are several thousand of guests every day and you fill it, I hv been in large complexes in the Usa or Caribbean but overall service and quality is better managed than what I can say for the Solaris but in general it has not been a terrible experience so since i know what to expect, i do not exclude that i could return one day
It is my second visit to Croatia and it confirms my first visit's impression, beautiful places but too crowded, next time i will try to visit an island!
