The hotel is located on the waterfront on a quiet street in a suburb, a ten minute drive away from walled old town Zadar. Parking is available on-site and is free. Built, owned, and family operated the hotel shows pride of ownership in that after nine years in operation it still is pristine. Warmly welcomed by Sarah, one of the tree daughters of the owner couple, we requested and were assigned a quiet 3rd floor room #207 toward the back and shielded from possible restaurant late diner's conversations. Absent an elevator, staff carried our luggage to our room and down again at departure. Sarah quoted us one price for payment with credit card, yet another discounted for cash payment.
Our carpeted room was furnished with beautiful solid Italian made wood furniture, a king size bed, desk, stocked mini-bar/fridge, and a flat screen TV. It gave rise to a classy appearance with seemingly no money spared (excepting the missing elevator) in building the hotel. Two furnished balconies offered a view to the Adriatic sea. Tiled floor to ceiling with marble, the bath room with a marble sink, ample space for one's things, quality fixtures, beveled mirror, and a half round, glass enclosed shower were spotlessly clean, as was the room itself. The brightly lit bathroom with the softest towels was better than we found in most hotels we visited in several years. Coming from the land of see-through toilet tissue, I mention a bit of trivia. The toilet paper of this hotel is of a quality not seen anymore, and it attests to the high standards of the Hotel Niko. Missing in the room were a hotel safety directory and a TV channel line-up. It was absolutely quiet at night, making for sound sleep.
The on-site elegant, open-air, sea view restaurant is a local institution, known for excellent fare prepared with the owner's wife in the kitchen and the owner managing the restaurant staff. The staff and the waiter could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Breakfast consisted of an enhanced continental breakfast with omelet and more gladly provided on request.
In summary, the Hotel Niko provides a comfortable, clean, quiet, and friendly base from which to explore Zadar and its region.
