“unscrupulous”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

This disgusting establishment with its sleazy near-criminal staff almost soured our time in Zadar, which is actually a lovely town. The location of this “hotel” is decent, but not reason enough to stay. There was rarely anyone at the front desk, and when we needed to find them we had to have some of the neighbors help us look for them. The owners lied about the price and held our passports as ransom – unlike the neighboring (but booked) hostels who agreed that this was unnecessary and unfair. The sooner this place can be shut down and replaced with a REAL lodging option, the better. The City of Zadar should be ashamed that this place is still in operation.

“great location - a weekend hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

For those who do not bother staying in a poor but cheap hotel for a weekend in order to visit beautiful Zadar, this is a reasonable choice. Yes, the rooms are poor, but have an acceptable bathroom, the sheets are clean, the staff rather friendly - AND the location is more than perfect. This is actually the main reason, why to try this rather simple and unusual hotel after all. Its position is within the old town, in midst the ancient town walls, nice restaurants, cafés, bars and shops - to enjoy at the best the beauties and the inviting summer splendor of Zadar. Zadar will make You forget about the hotel´s flaws - in the end, it is really cheep!

“DO NOT STAY HERE - THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

This place is horrible. Yes it is located inside the old city, but the staff is very rude, the rooms are dirty /small and the rates are WAY TOO HIGH. The people here are not available unless you call them, and then it will still take them 30 - 40 minutes to arrive. Upon arriving to this hotel to check in, the staff locked up our passports and demanded money before they would release them. I needed my passport to withdraw money from the local bank to pay them, and this resulted in a big argument. This was before I even entered their hotel. They also tried to charge us double what they agreed to for the price of the room. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! Stay at Rogg Dogg or outside the old city. If it weren't for the friendly man at Rogg Dogg hotel, Venera would have really cheated us bad.

Room Tip: small, over priced, dirty, rude stafrf

“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

When we arrived at Venera, the hotel staff had no record of our booking. As it was a Sunday, their admin person was away so they were unable to access their computer to view our booking. We were then told the hotel was full that night so we would be unable to stay there anyway.

Instead, they moved us to a private apartment down the road which was horrible. Opposite a noisy bar, it was almost impossible to get any sleep until the music stopped at 3am. Furthermore there was no lock on our room door and the apartment front door was left unlocked by the owner so our valuables didn't feel very secure. The room was hardly big enough to fit our luggage in and no linen was provided.

In conclusion, I'd really recommend not staying here. It's hugely overpriced for what it is and blatantly trades on its convenient location alone. If we went again we'd definitely stay off the island and make the short trip into town each day.

Avoid.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

“Good location, terrible hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Our experience was very similar to previous comments. Check in staff initially were good, to be replaced by staff that did not wish to lift a finger to help us. Rooms are very small. Friday night bars and pubs were very loud until about 4am. Location is good for seeing Zadar, unfortunately it is such a poor hotel.
