“Well run hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We spent four nights in October half term here, having got very cheap Ryanair flights to Zadar. The weather was pretty awful for a couple of days and we really appreciated the indoor pool and spa which was immaculate and fragrant (good opening hours 7am to 10 pm). Shame about the no swimming costumes rule in the sauna - we're too shy - so didn't use it (but plenty of Germans did). The hotel is well run and immaculately clean. Room was well appointed with good shower room, but bed was extremely hard. Food was varied and plentiful. Staff all very helpful and pleasant. Quite a distance from the town centre but very pleasant walk along the coast road or easy bus trip (No 5 or 8).

“Weekend trip to Zadar.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We stayed at the Funimation for 2 nights as we were in Zadar for the weekend. Got absolute bargain flights on Ryanair at a cost of £17.95 per return ticket. Before choosing the Funimation, we explored all other options, but decided that all-inclusive would be best since we were travelling with a 3 year old. We pre-booked a taxi from the airport with Lulic Taxi. This cost 150kn…about £18. Upon arrival, the taxi was in the arrivals area waiting patiently. The drive to the Funimation took about 15 mins.

Upon entry, the hotel’s lobby has the wow factor. Check-in was swift. We were given our all inclusive wristbands, and a sheet detailing breakfast, lunch, dinner times etc. We had reserved a mini-family room, and were given one which faced the courtyard. The size of the room was ample. However, the décor of the room was somewhat dated. Old styled TV and uncomfortable pillows…however these shouldn’t affect your holiday too much. There’s a mini fridge, but there are no coffee and tea facilities. There is no kettle for making tea in case you’re travelling with a young child. However, I think the reception provides a ‘baby pack’ which you can rent for a price. Also, you’re provided with beach slippers and bath robes. Please be advised that if you use these bathrobes, you’ll be charged about £1.50 (cleaning fee) for the pleasure. My main issue with the room was access to the balcony. There was an issue with the balcony door. It couldn’t be opened. It appeared as if someone had broken the other side of the balcony door, and that side had been boarded up. Clearly this room should not have been made available to guests.

The hotel’s main restaurant was buffet styled. The selection was ample but may not be to everyone’s palette. On the first night, they had rice with cucumber. Maybe it’s a Med dish. It’s safe to say that a lot of the food on offer was definitely geared towards a certain nationality. However, as mentioned by others…the pizzas are absolutely delicious – definitely try these. The food got progressively better as the days went by. The drinks which were offered weren’t very good. The orange juice was drinkable but the apple juice was absolutely awful. Additionally, the wines were either too watered down, or you just couldn’t manage to drink it. The desserts however were very tasty, always with a wide selection.

The hotel’s outside pool wasn’t heated, and it remained empty daily. There was also a large water slide which again went unused. There is a kids play area which was very nice. My 3 year old enjoyed playing there. There were slides, swings, see-saws, and a mini playhouse. Enough to keep kids occupied and content! Borik beach consists of pebbles. There’s no sand, so please don’t go with the expectation of a beautiful sandy beach.

The spa at the Funimation is gorgeous. The entire layout is geared towards extreme relaxation. I had one treatment done which was eyebrow shaping. The price was about £5. Free use of the sauna etc is included in your all inclusive price.

There’s a supermarket located directly across the street should you feel the need to stock up. The attitude of the ladies at the checkout counter leaves a lot to be desired. However, this may be a Croatian thing. There’s an excursion office located in the hotel with reasonable tour prices.

The official check-out time is 10am. However, we had a late afternoon flight and needed to check out at 1. I inquired at reception, and it was no problem at all. We were able to have late checkout free of cost. Something that’s very rare at many hotels.
Overall, the Funimation is a good functional hotel. You won’t regret your stay should you decide to stay there. However, on my next visit, I’ll certainly book their sister hotel, the Diadora which has recently opened.

“Hats off!”

We stayed here for 5-6 days in June 2011, with spuse and 2 kids, 3&5 yo.
Apart from the lobby, decorated more like Kenya or Tanzania (at least that's what I imagine Africa would look like) instead of Mediterrane, everything else is nice: plenty of pools, everything is clean, everyone is nice, polite and smiling... Food was rather ok (I strongly recommend everyone to taste their pizza - the best pastry ever!), very wide choice, either meat or fish, even vegetarian corner...
However, the best part of the hotel staff was children animation team. I admired their effort, their will and their approach to the kids, all on 5-6 languages, for all the age groups (above 3). It was the only way to have a moment or two for ourselves, to enjoy a cup of coffee, newspaper and leisure.
Thanks Monca, Florijan, Ema, Anamarija, Lea, Marko and others, you were great!!

Room Tip: If you don't long for sea view, any room is good. Try to avoid the mini family suite, I think th...

“good place but all inclusive....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

the place is amazing, nice pool, nice beach, super walkside but the all inclusive is not the truth.
basically it's a full penzion with breakfast - lunch - dinner included.
you don't have access to the food everytime you have to be between certains hours and be careful because some guests "jump" on the buffet of desert for example and nothing is coming after.
you don't have the choice for the bar, only 1 bar available, the other one is not included in the full penzion.
if you want to use the bathrobe then you will be charge
internet is not free - 15€ for 3 days!!!

1 morning I get wake up @ 7h am by the garden team which were cutting trees!!!
when I spoke to the reception the answer was "it's good because the breakfast is starting @ 7:30 so you don't miss it"

the rooms are big and spacious and very clean.

Room Tip: ask for sea view

“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The hotel is located in Borik, close to Zadar. The town is not very easy to reach by foot, so he best thing to do is take bus 5/8 in front of the hotel. There is also a tourist train for 10 kuna/pers. The hotel is a nice family resort with a large pool, a slide and a beach in front of the hotel. It was a little bit to calm for me, because the animation team was already gone. The hotel is good for familys/ older people, but not for young people because there is nothing in the area to do. The hotel is very nice and clean! The staff was so friendly! The food was good, a lot of choices. The all-In was not really all in, it finished at 22H.
My room was on the 3th floor, not with swimmingpool view. The room was big, with a nice bathroom. First i had a problem with the balconydoor, because you need to pull to both sides of the window. The airco was good. The only negative was the internet, It was not free.
The welness was really nice! Its a good hotel, but a little bit boring.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor.
