“Disappointing stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

We stayed one night, and it cost around £75 for that one night which I thought was extremely expensive, but the location was perfect for us for getting away the next day, being not that far from the bus station.

We went downstairs to the restaurant in the evening because the weather was bad and it had had some good reviews. The place was very bright and music was a constant stream from "Rockabilly FM" - not my scene at all. I had the fish dish - which looked and tasted great, apart from the cooked centipede in my chard. I mentioned it to the waiter at the end of the meal, indicating that the chard shouldve been washed better, but I got no apology or any response at all. The other half chose sweet and sour chicken, which was in fact chicken in a very sweet apple sauce.

Breakfast was included in the price and wasn't bad at all...the coffee machine was fantastic.

There was never anybody on reception.

Free wifi, but you need to get a code from the restaurant donwstairs.

“Ticked all the boxes !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

We stopped off for one night on our way to Rovinj, not wanting to have to return to see the sights ( e.g. ampitheatre ). Scaletta was perfectly placed for sightseeing, and also for the bus station when we left. Hotel staff could not have been more helpful in our short stay. We ate in the restaurant and again, good friendly service, with pretty reasonable value, good quality food. Our room was comfy with air conditioning, a little on the small side if anything ( if I was statying for a long time ) but for the one night not an issue.

“Horror experience”

In center of Pula there isn't so many hotels so we picked this one because it had air con in rooms. Air con blew only hot air all night long so we slept about 4 hours. We complained about that and staff was only laughing to us. Explanation was that some other room has it on heating - outside temperature was minimum 35 celsius!

“Loved the friendly humerous family service and the restaurant was best food in our 2 week stay in Croatia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Ask for Room 4 - only one with a balcony. Views not good but still somewhere to sit with a glass in hand on a balmy evening before going out for supper, The restaurant chef is a family member studying cooking and he will certainly be worthy of a Michellin star in the not too distant future. The waiter is another son who fishes at night for the menu the next day and his sense of humour is great!
Just up the road from the amphitheatre and a comfortable walk from all the marvellous archaeological sites and cafe bars of Pula.
We enjoyed this hotel very much. The rooms are small but clean and well equipped and the service was excellent.

“simple and nice, but don't rely on your booking...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

This is probably the best option if you want to stay in the city close to the arena. Nothing special, but a simple, albeit charming hotel and good value for the money. The restaurant is excellent and more than worth its (moderate) prices.

The only deception was that exactly the same happened to us as apparently to others before us: We arrived around 11 pm and waited for about a quarter of an hour until check-in only to learn that only one of three booked rooms was available for the first of two nights. We were lodged in a private apartment building nearby which was completely beyond discussion.

The owners did their best to make up for it the next morning and were very apologetic. However, at check-out they wanted to charge the full hotel rate for the first night for one of the rooms (strangely, not for the other) - almost double the price of what was advertised at the apartment building itself! They argued that they had to charge VAT and that we took breakfast at the hotel (which was certainly not worth 40 EUR...). It then took us some discussion to make clear that this was just not acceptable.

If this is a repeated pattern (as it seems to be) they really should take care to stop it before they ruin their reputation. Sad, as it would have been a throughout positive experience otherwise.
