“Pretentious”

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation in warm weather do not stay here. The owners seem to be aiming for hipness rather than guest comfort. It has none of the emenities one would expect for theprice one pays. It's highly stylized almost to a point of caricature. Our room was large and attractive, but the bathroom was tiny without a bath and nowhere to put your toiletries. As for safety, you have to use your key to open your door from inside the room. Not a very smart idea in the event of a fire. Dinner was extremely expensive and there was a formality that wasn't warranted. Furthermore, at dinner they charge you extra to sit in an area with a better view of the bay, even if that area is entirely empty..
They advertise that they have a pool but it's a post stamp tub in an enclosed space with 2 chaises and no attendants. there is no real gym and the spa (which also is small) is only available at limited times.
More significantly, there is no beach and no comfortable area to sit and relax. You have to cross the road to get to a grassy and rocky area near the water, but if you go there the hotel offers no chairs and umbrellas for your comfort.
There is a small rocky unattractive public beach within walking distance which is filled with screaming youngsters.
I would pass on this hotel and Pula altogether. If you must visit the area stay in Rovigna and visit Pula for the day to see coliseum.

“OVERARTED IN EVERY WAY, SORRY I TOOK FROMMERS RECOMMENDATION”

The location is in a residential area very difficult to find by self drive. Far from the aiport and not a place worth the time or find. The rooms were like a motel, small and the bathroom had no place to put any toiletries, the tredny decor in the rooms was so outdated and not very useable, appeared to be just a whimsical idea at one time.
The restraurant looks like a party will be held there, the menu is so over the top and wildy expensive, and I usually don't mind both, but very unappealing. The area is not appealing either, the beahc and scenery is not the beauty you find in Opatijia or even Rovinj, I would pass on this hotel and Pula altogether. The rooms are locked from the outside, if there was a fire you would be out of luck finding your key to get out, trust me, needs a complete new theme and menu overhaul before it would even apeal to anyone.
What pool, a small above level waterhole....not a true pool in any sense of the word.

“Not that good”

I don't see why this hotel is rated so highly. I stayed two nights and noticed after the first that there were stains in the bed. These sheets were not changed the second night and the stains were still there. Breakfast was expensive and not that good, just the basics, although you could order eggs as you like.
The reception was very cold, just gave the passports and copy of the confirmation, nothing more was said.
There is a pool on the 3rd floor with great views, that was the highlight of this "hotel".

“Great stay and top restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2009

This is a great hotel to relax and enjoy very good food & wine. The kitchen, the way they cook, the products and the wine list are exceptionell. Regarding to other comments and previous reviews:
* the street in front of the house is not loud or busy at all - it`s a small road with a dead end after 250 m. It doesn`t affect you at all.
* the "playground" in front of the house - no problem. There are some kids down by the beach, but as the hotel is a little further up on a hill, you can`t hear them ...
* reception in the restaurant - yes, that`s correct. But I think it`s a funny idea, besides that - who needs a huge reception/concierge in a boutique-style hotel with 10 rooms???
* unfriendly staff - absolute nonsens. All of them are very friendly and helpful.
I can really recommend this place - go there, have a bottle of Champagne on your terrace, enjoy the view, have a great dinner with wine from the area and after that a peaceful rest in one of the lovely, modern and individually designed rooms ....

“It was a nice place to be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

I would have to say that Pula wasn't an amazing place. However, I wasn't really looking for an place so full of attractions and this proved perfect. I chose to stay at the Valsalbion Hotel which was about 3 km away from the center at the mouth of the Marina Verdula. It is the only "hip, boutique" hotel in the area, or perhaps, the whole of Croatia. The rooms are simple, contemporary and just the antidote for the floral bedspread type hotels in the area. It is also very small. I chose to rent a scooter in town and used that for my daily transportation to the market and cafes in the morning before heading to Medulin to spend the afternoons at Kamp Kazela where they have and FKK (nude) beach and campground. This is not a "sexy" nude beach, to say the least. Lots of older people and families, but it has a lovely relaxed environment and the water was perfect. I spent the evenings with a glass or two of wine and some appetizers from the restaurant at the hotel which were superb. The food there is a little fussier than I care for, but the wines were excellent and generally from the area north of Pula near Umag. All in all, Pula wasn't a great place to be, but it was great to be there.
