This was the last stop on our Croatian honeymoon at the end of September into October and it was a great way to spend our last few days! Hotel More was great for lots of reasons and here are the top few:
1. My husband rented one of suites with a hottub and private sundeck. We didn't have to worry about staking out a place at the pool or beach for sunning. When we wanted to swim, we took our things down to the sea and hopped right in! When we were done swimming, we laid in the chairs they had set up seaside to dry a bit before going back through the hotel. If there had been a lot more hotel guests, that might not have been possible and we would have had to walk through the hotel soaking wet (it's a far walk and 2 elevators back up to the higher levels of the hotel). But, it worked out great since we had the luxury to relax before heading back to our room. At night, we watched the sunset from our deck and had a glass of wine before heading into town.
2. The views from all of the rooms are beautiful and it's SO private in the Bay of Lapad. There is no congestion as it's off the main road, there is barely any boat traffic other than locals and only a few small hotels across the bay that aren't obtrusive.
3. It's a short taxi ride into the city. We love to go out to dinner and enjoy the local culture at night. During the day, you can relax in peace and quiet, but for $10 and 10 minutes, can be in the center of the activity of downtown Dubrovnik.
4. You can walk to get your own supplies at the local grocery store. We stocked up on wine, olives, cheese, etc and had our own little snacks during the day. The walk along the bay is short and lined with cafes, vendors and bars. We didn't go to any of them but it was a nice walk to see the local people out and running their businesses.
5. The cave bar is a great place to hang out! It's really unique, a great setting for a group of friends or just a couple, they have indoor and outdoor seating.
6. The breakfast at the Hotel More restaurant is great! What's better than a nice, big breakfast buffet (simple with healthy options) overlooking the sea on the balcony each morning on vacation!? The view is breathtaking (see picture), the staff is helpful, coffee and tea come right away and even mimosas!
A few things that I might not have loved if we had stayed there for more than a few days:
1. We had a hot tub! But it never worked for us while we were there! We had the hotel's staff come twice to fix it, but for some reason, we never had it hot at night so couldn't use it.
2. The restaurants within walking distance that they recommend weren't really our taste. There are a ton of these restaurants in Croatia that serve a handful of their specialty fish dishes, a steak and little else on the menu. If you love seafood, you'll probably be alright, but we never found anything on the menus at those types of restaurants that was appetizing! Your options ended up being the hotel restaurant which we did once, but who doesn't love to get out for dinner!? and going to town. It would be nice to also have some walking options with variety.
3. The pool is tiny, tiny, tiny. Sometimes it's nice to take a dip in the pool without having to go all the way down to the sea which is more of a production. There aren't many chairs and the space is really cramped so it's probably great on quiet days, but crazy during the busy season.
4. Wow is it hot in the rooms! Even if you close your shades, that sun is brutal and the air conditioning doesn't seem to keep up in the middle of the day! We didn't spend much time in our room, but when we came in, phew, it was nasty!
Overall, it was a beautiful and wonderful hotel for a few days! Thank you, Dubrovnik!
