We booked this hotel via their own website some time ago, after reading favourable reports on this website, and were very glad we did!
Upon arriving at the airport out "driver" (actually a very nice friend of the owner) was there as agreed waving our name card in the air! We were promptly driven to the apartment to be greeted by the owner who showed us the room.
We thought it was very good value for money....a very large double bed, ample storage, air con, internet (for a small charge if required), fully stocked brand new kitchen with appliances, washing machine, nice balcony etc etc. It was spotlessly clean and it was lovely to sit on the balcony enjoying a beer as the sun set before our night out.
Lapad is ok as far as areas go, it has several shops and restaurants, and is quieter than Dubrovnik. We did venture into Dubrovnik on an evening several times, but it is quite a walk. We walk quite fast and it took us a good 40 minutes each way, up and down hills, which proved hard work in the extreme heat and humidity. There is a bus stop very close by though, so unless you are gluttons for punishment (like us!) I would recommend doing that.
Dubrovnik is really beautiful and so well kept. It gets very busy with tourists though, so be prepared! I would recommend a walk around the city walls, and also one of the boat trips to neighbouring islands, very pretty. We found Dubrovnik (and indeed Lapad) to be rather expensive, and we were also a bit dissappointed with the restaurants, and the service in them. If you like fish you will be fine, but as I do not, I struggled to find anything else, and the meat is not great. Vegetarians may struggle generally in Dubrovnik.
Back to the apartment....The air con was great, and definately necessary! The bed was so comfortable, we slept solidly on every single night, helped no doubt by the quiteness of the apartments, as it is up some stairs there is no audible noise from the street.
If I am being picky, there are only 2 things that I could suggest improvement on. One is the hot water....same old story...despite being very frugle with it there just was not enough. By the end of even a 4 min shower it was starting to run out, if there are more than 2 of you, it would be a bit of a pain. I have encountered this in many countries before though, so hardly revelationary.
The only other minor gripe was that the fridge did not seem to be very cold despite being very new. Ice cubes would not seem to set, and the drinks were not as cold as would have liked, and it was turned up fully..who knows why?
This does not detract from the fact that this is a fab little apartment, and the owner and colleagues are really welcoming and friendly, you could not wish for better hosts.
I would certainly stay here again should we return to Dubrovnik!
