“Perfect View; Very Good Location; Very Good Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights with a group of 25 people.
The location of the hotel is very good. It is on top of a cliff overlooking the sea; also it is close to the old city, around 20 minutes walk, but it is bumpy. You can use city buses or taxi which is cheap.
I stayed in a nice executive room. The room was large and well furnished; the bathroom was stylish; there was a large balcony in which you can sunbath. The view was perfect from the room.
The bathroom had glass walls; which can be a problem if you are looking for privacy. On the other hand you can watch the Adriatic Sea when you are having a shower.
The room and the hotel in general was clean.
The beds were large & comfortable; it was very quite and as a reslut sleep quqlity was high.
The staff was helpfull and respectfull; as a group we had quite a lot of demands from them including an axtra space for a kind of celebration organization etc they had helped us and provided us whatever we needed.
Food was very good; I had one dinner which was good. The breakfast was perfect, maybe one of the best I had had in Europe.
The waiters were also good and polite.
I had organised this trip so I was "kind of" in charge of the group we travelled; all the people(aged between 22-45) liked the hotel, service, food etc. and everybody in the group thanked me for choosing this hotel; so I recommend this hotel to everyone. If you can stay in a room overlooking the sea.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the sea.

“splendid architecture”

splendid building very good integrated in the hillside. Astonishing views. Large bedrooms with splendid bathrooms.
The old town is reached by 20 minutes walking. There is a busstop on top of a small steep hill. Bus nr 4 takes you frequently to the entrance of the old city. A taxi ride costs 9 euro.'
Parking in front of the hotel is free.
The design carpets need cleaning.
A very negative point is the terrible coffee served at breakfast. This should be replaced by decent automated coffeemaking machines..The breakfastbuffet is great.

“dissapointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We have chosen the Rixos in Dubrovnik by good experience we had with their property in Antalya Turkey.
Unfortunatly it is not the same standard.
Maintenance is not to a standard of 5 stars as the Rixos Dubrovnik graded.
You can spot many dents and unfixed things in the public areas and in the guest room.
We were looking for a room for 2 adults and a child .The room we were allocated was at the 5th floor and not big enough.
We were suggested to try a room on the 12th floor which is an executive one but the space was even smaller.
All fernitures were hooked to the floor so nothing could be moved to create bigger space for a 3rd bed.
The bathroom in our room (5th floor) has a very unique set up , all is open space and no curtains on the corridor side. So if one is taking a shower no privace is provided. The situation in the room on the 12th floor is even more extreme.(doesn't fit to a family).
Amout of lighting in the bathroom is poor as well.
Hardy have space for putting our luggage in the cupboard as the right door can not be opened properly (obstracted by the doorknob of the entrance door to the room ),
We had to leave our suitcases unpacked on the floor.
The safe can not be used as well (at least not to place the laptop) because the safe's door can not be opened to the full extend as it is being obstracted by the cupboard's door which is obstracted by the entrance door to the room.
Fitness and indoor pool are OK. Due to bad weather we could not use the outdoor pool which is big and impressive .
Breakfast is very well presented and a large variety of products may be found.(more than a typical european breakfast).
Service at the front desk was polite and courties.
Proximity to the old city is an advantage and within a reasonable walking distance.
We were disturbed by a constant noise (during night time as well) within the vecinity of our room but could not define the cause .
We have decided to move out of the hotel and not stay there for the entire period we have booked it.
Unfortunatly the hotel doen't justify the price.

Room Tip: r4ooms do noit fit more than 2 people

“Nice and clean hotel with kind and friendly staff but minor problems that can be fixed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Positive points: The hotel room was clean and spacious. The staff were kind and helpful. Room service was fast. Overall, all personnel of the hotel were doing their jobs well, they were nice and respectful.

The breakfast was really good, offering a variety of everything. The waiters serving during breakfast were very attentive, fast and friendly.

The location is about 15-20 mins walking from the Old Town so it is not exactly central. The walking road has a nice coastal view though, if you don't mind walking. It is also possible to take a bus to the center. We walked a few times to learn the directions and see how long it takes to reach to Old Town. It was a little tiring as Dubrovnik is not a flat area and requires climbing up and down to reach anywhere. The walking road from the hotel to Old Town also has parts where you need to climb up. So we also took the bus a couple of times.

Negative points: All transperent (glass) walls of the bathroom and lack of a door of the bathroom was a big problem as we stayed in a twin room with my mother and it was uncomfortable not having privacy at all in the bathroom. Not only double rooms but also twin rooms are designed this way so you take a shower between glass walls right in the middle of the room and the sound of the water can also be a problem for the other person if he/she is a light sleeper.

Our room was facing the parking lot and not the sea. When we opened the window at nights to get some fresh air in the room, the noise of the passing cars and more importantly the noise of some metal sheets hitting something really disturbed us during our sleep. Our room did not have a good location or view. But that is not really their fault as we did not specifically ask for a room from the side, which views the sea. If they tell you that your room has a "city view", that it means it views the parking lot so you might want to change that before you settle.

The lobby, floors and areas where you wait for the elevator were too hot for us. I think those areas were not air-conditioned unlike the rooms, where air-conditioning worked just fine. The weather was not extremely hot during our stay in Dubrovnik (end of September 2011) so that is maybe why they did not cool off the interiors of the hotel but it was too hot to wait in the lobby for something or to have a drink in an internal space of the hotel. The glass roof added to the heat.

The internet connection on one computer of a total of two computers at the lobby did not work. The other computer and internet connection worked fine but we had to wait for a while as there was only one computer with internet connection.

Overall, it is a nice hotel to stay in Dubrovnik but when you see that it is a 5 star hotel, you expect a little more such as no noise in the room at nights (which was almost the only time we spent in our room) and uninterruped sleep, well air-conditioned interiors and sufficiently working internet connection on more than one computer. Other than those subjects, everything else such as hygiene, breakfast and staff was just fine.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea have a beautiful Adriatic view unless the rooms facing the other way just see t...
