“A touch of luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

We spent 7 nights at this marvellous hotel in early July. the weather was exceptionally humid so the air conditioning (throughout the hotel and very effective) was essential to a comfortable stay.
All of the staff were courteous and helpful and when we discovered that the remote on the television was faulty a man was on the doorstep in less than five minutes, batteries in hand, to fix it quietly and efficiently.
The area by the sea was a great place to sunbathe and take an occasional dip whiolsy watching the boats go by across the bay.
The only downside was the ciost of eating in the restaurant - however we soon discovered several excellent alternatives for dinner in the old town of Dubrovnik.
In summary , a great hotel offering excellent service and facilities!

“Loved the Villa Argentina and some tips about Dubrovnik...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2009

My Fiance and I stayed at the Villa Argentina for 1 week at the beginining of June. The hotel itself is beautiful... it is especially great for those that love sunbathing and swimming. The hotel has two pools, an outdoor and indoor pool, both of which are great. A holiday to me is all about the pool and I have to say the Villa Argentina has the best outdoor pool and sunbathing area we have ever visted - it is amazing. You can swim in the pool or the sea which is crystal clear. However, be aware that the swimming conditions in the Adratic, it changed each day we were there so one day it would be perfect for an intermediate swimmer and the next you would need to be an advanced swimmer to handle to conditions. We found that the hotel itself is more 4 star than 5, and thats based mainly on the quality of service received from staff. The front desk is ok but not what you would expect form a 5 star hotel. Some tips are bring a travel iron.. the hotel does not have an iron service available in the room and so you have to pay (circa €7 for each item) to have your clothes ironed. Also get a room with a sea view. The hotel has the most amazing view ( I think best in the city) so pay a little extra and get a sea view. We made the mistake of getting a regular room, without sea view and it was very cramped for the week. Dubrovnik itself is very casual so leave you smart clothes at home and bring comfortable shoes and a cardy.. also I'm a wine lover but found the half carafe (or lite carafes) of wine for a meal to be great and much cheaper.

“Good but not that good”

Now don't get me wrong... it is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location and very accessible for the city. It has lovely terraced gardens and sun deck. Most (more later) of the staff are helpful and very pleasant. Some great fun. The food is excellent and the rooms a good standard, if on-economy small.

If you are on a bit of budget and decide to book the hotel you will get a room on the road side. It is noisy, despite the double glazing, as it over looks a school and the car park for this hotel and the Excelsior next door.

Friendly Receptionists is a hit and miss affair. I wanted to use the laptop in the room and they eventually gave me a cable - which didn't work. All I got was "use the WiFi in the lobby or in the Business Centre" (which costs).

There was always a queue at the Concierge table for complaints, especially with the American customers in rooms overlooking the the sea.

We also got stung with 4x £15 whiskeys at the bar, late one night. We just asked for 2 whiskeys and then refills. The waiter just gave us the most expensive ones without asking.

It is a great hotel but there are really nice ones all over the area. Those around the Babin Kuk peninsular are not far from the town - although they look like it on maps and google.

“Victoria Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2008

The Victoria restaurant was absolutely amazing. We spent the last night of our honeymoon here. The hotel had reserved us the best table, with direct views to the old town for the most beautiful sunset. Service was excellent without being overly formal.
Food came with silver domes over it to be revealed on cue - I felt like I was in Pretty woman, I felt so special. The food was to die for, especially the steak, which after so much fish and seafood in Dubrovnik was just what I needed. The creme brullee to finish was so good, I had to take a picture of it.
To top it all, in the bar area, below the balcony we were sitting on, they had a live jazz trio playing.
Truly 5 star!
(The hotel's other restaurant - Caravelle was pretty good too!)

“Ideal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2008

During June we stayed four nights in the Villa Argentina. We arranged for the hotel’s limo transfer (42 Euro) from the airport, which we highly recommend as the airport is a good distance (approximately half an hour drive) from the hotel/town. Our accommodations included a standard room with no view, which was all that was available when we booked months in advance. The room was just that “standard,” but clean and adequate. The air-conditioner worked well, which was a plus considering we experienced temperatures in the 90s Fahrenheit our entire stay. Our only complaint about the room would be the shower. For us USA tourist those European shower contraptions are always challenging. In our opinion, the greatest plus is that the hotel complex is surrounded by beautiful gardens overlooking the pristine Adriatic and Old Town Dubrovnik. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the stunning view. The swimming pool is a very enjoyable experience. Also, you can swim in the Adriatic right off the swimming pool area in what they refer to as the “private beach.” Although, there is no beach per se. The breakfast selections were plentiful. Although the French toast, pancakes and few other items were so so. However, once you sit on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view – there is not much to complain about. The hotel is a short and enjoyable walk from Old Town. However, depending on when you are there it can be a rather hot walk. The staff at the hotel is pleasant and professional, but not overly friendly. We enjoyed our stay and exploring Dubrovnik. We would definitely like to return to Dubrovnik and the Grand Villa Argentina, but would make sure we had a room with a sea view next time.
