“The best location in Dubrovnik old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This hotel was the best located hotel in dubrovnik old town! It was very easy to find - right inside the Pile gate up a lane off the main street. Everything was close to this hotel - the city walls entrance, the main street, the harbour and the bus station. Restaurants etc were close by also. The rooms were small but comfortable with a good sized bathroom. The hotel also had a rooftop terrace perfect for relaxing. Breakfast was the best I have had at any hotel in europe - you could order off a menu - I had scrambled eggs and fruit. The woman that assisted me at reception was the most helpful of any hotel I have travelled to! She helped me carry my very heavy suitcase up to level 4 (there was no lift but the ladies at reception are very helpful) and answered all my questions about getting around the old town and to Gruz harbour. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the heart of dubrovnik old town. I wish I could have stayed here longer!

Room Tip: request a room on a level 1 or 2 so you dont have to drag your suitace up too many levels of stairs!

“Great oasis in a crowded city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Wonderful boutique hotel in an amazing city. We stayed three nights after spending three weeks touring other parts of Croatia. Only 8 rooms, nicely furnished, recently updated, no view from rooms but seventh floor terrace provides spectacular views of the old town below. Only one of two hotels within the old town walls. Breakfast was next door with huge selection and fast service. All amenities of a larger hotel with very friendly staff that easily answered questions or solved tourist dilemmas. Would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: No elevator so we stayed on the first level facing the front but only minimal noise.

“Lovely Hotel, Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for three nights. It is ideally situated on a narrow side street off the main Stradum of the stunning walled city of Dubrovnik. We could walk everywhere, with access to all the sites. Our room was very clean, a decent size, and charmingly decorated in an Old World style but with everything we needed. We loved the breakfast, served each morning on tables set up on the cobbled little street, with big platters of fresh fruit to start and whatever we wanted from the menu. Delightful. And we loved the rooftop terrace, which we used to enjoy a bottle of wine from a nearby shop, to watch the sun down go down over this ancient city. The views are simply breath-taking.

Just be aware: this hotel has no elevator, and we were on the fourth floor. It was not a problem for us, but it could be for others, so ask about which floor your room is on if that is a potential issue. But do try to get to the roof terrace at sundown. You will never forget the sight of the encircling walls, the bell towers, the sea, and the swooping swallows circling overhead. Gorgeous.

Great location right in the middle of the old town. My room was small but clean and confortable. The price was high but a good deal considering the location.

“Great location, old Croatia feel”

Hotel Stari Grad is located within the walls of the Old Town and is a quick walk from the Pile gate. It's on the ground level tier of the town which makes a huge difference when arriving with suitcases in the heat of the Croatian summer. There is no elevator so beware if stairs are not your thing. Rooms are basic.
