We have just returned from an 8 day stay where we based ourselves in and around Lapad (Babin Kuk) and stayed in Villa Sandra. Biserka, the owner, was just fantastic. From the initial email enquiry she was prompt in response, gave us lots and lots of information about her studios and 1 bedroom apartments and a whole lot more besides.
The villa is fantastic. It is layered accross 3 levels so you always have that sense of privacy with your own terrace. The terraces are festooned with native plants, trees and flowers that add a real homely quality. She organised a pickup from the airport and was there to greet us - the first thing we did then was sit down and have a beer with her. My only warning is that this girl can talk a mile a minute on any subject, and in 4 languages... :-)
We stayed in Studio II and it met every need we had and more. More than enough space, recently refurbished, kitcheh had everything, beds were comfortable, brand new large powerful shower and you have your own private terrace with table and chairs where we spent more than one evening just kicked back.
The location was great for us. The villa is situated on the first level up from the main lapad promenade. It is but a 5 min stroll and you are on the main Lapad beach promenade. We loved the location and was exactly what we were looking for - enough bars and restaurants to keep you entertained and varied but in no way overcrowded with them. Beach was lovely and was not crowded at all.
The local bus into Dubro old town is a doddle - it runs from the stop at the end of the road and brings you right to the city gates. Takes 10 mins to get to the old town so you really are getting the best of both worlds being situated here and yet so close to the bright lights and wonderful charm of the old town.
On Biserka's suggestion , we took the passenger ferry to Mijet and it is a great way to get to spend a whole day on the island. We hired a small car when we got there so had the option of stopping off at little tucked away places on way up to the national park and still had plenty of time to drive down to the other end of the island to the sandy beaches before returning to catch ferry back - great day trip and recommended.
Beacuse Biserka was heading away on business the day we were departing, she made a point of coming down to say farewell and we ended up sharing some of her own home-made grappa. Her talents know no bounds it would seem - I defy anyone to find a subject that she cannot talk lucidly and intelligently on.
All in all I would heartily recommend Villa Sandra because of both it's location and because of the wonderful people that run it the way they do. Attentive, helpful but in now way intrusive
