“Fantastic hotel in a great location!”

What a find the Astrea Hotel is in the picturesque village of Mlini which is situated halfway between the airport & Dubrovnik approx 10 kms from both. The hotel has commanding views across the bay and is virtually located on the beach. It was very clean, had good facilities and the food was adequate.
I do agree with other reveiws the balcony bar is a beautiful place to have a drink and watch the sun set, it is an amazing sight. My husband always forgot his camera & had to rush back to our room to get it.
It has got separate facilities for Saga guests & they do have a balcony & rooms we were not allowed into. They were older guests who needed to feel safe & they had paid a lot more. They were very friendly & it did not affect us at all, they came on our balcony bar area to chat & were quite funny.
A short 2/3 minute walk from the hotel along the flat coastal road which brings you into the beautiful Mlini village, which nestles around a small harbour. From here you can catch the regular & inexpensive boat service to Dubrovnik and the nearby coastal resorts and Islands.
You also have the advantage of the lovely walk again along the coastal road to other villages that have good bars & resturants.
I would not say Milni is ideal for the really young ones but it is for a romantic get away or honeymoons.
I have recommended the Hotel Asterea to everyone & would not hesitate to go back.
To be honest I cannot wait ,it is the best place I have ever been!

“where are the sunbeds”

Just returned from a week stay and although this hotel had the potential to be a five star with great location and plenty space it lets itself down on too many areas. It appears to be orientated to saga guests as they have a sun drenched balcony with tables and brollys exclusive for their use while the ordinary guests only have tables with no cover on the bar terrace with not a sun lounger anywhere. In the dining room saga guests are allowed to buy wine by the glass for any type of wine but we were resticted to bottles. The food was passable but unless you were there early especially at breakfast you were mostly limited to scrambled or boiled eggs. The weather was brilliant and the location great for a quiet holiday but not really geared for younger couples with children

“Hotel Asterea”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2006

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in June. We were told we were staying in the annexe part of the hotel, which turned out to be a bunglaow/chalet. The room was very small, no facilities, no fridge, nothing to make a drink with. The rooms are very basic - more like what you would expect from a hostel. The beds are very basic and very uncomfortable.
Although there are clean towels provided each day, the room is not really cleaned, just beds made and clean towels (which were very shabby). The air con didnt work, we reported this 3 times and nothing was done about it, and it was paritcularly hot whilst we were there, so didnt really get any sleep, as the rooms are baking hot!

The chalets are a short walk from the main hotel and the village. So you have to go the hotel for drinks etc, as you cant store anything in the room as it is far too hot. I dont think we would have lasted any longer than 4 nights.

The food is ok, but meat heavy and the same things offered most nights. Breakfast is also quite poor, with not much choice.

The main hotel is quite shabby and could do with a lick of paint and a good clean. I also found the reception and bar staff slightly intolerant and not really helpful, although the cleaners and waitresses were all very nice.

Mlini is a nice little village, very quiet and peaceful but weI wouldnt stay in this hotel again.

It would have been ok if they only charged a basic hostel price for the chalet rooms and not charge the same price as staying at the hotel.

“Highly recommended well run hotel in great location”

Because we could n't get in elsewhere we stayed at the Astarea, which turned out to be fantastic. The brochure does not do justice to this hotel and its surrounding area. Mlini is located in between Dubrovnik and Cavtat (both worth visiting), and is a beautiful little area. There are probably around 7 or 8 quiet bars that you can stroll between as well as a few shops, 4 or 5 good restraunts and a church etc The hotel itself is the best run hotel I have ever stayed in, it may not look as good as the others in the brochure, but if I was to go back I would not hesitate to book here again. The buffet evening meal offers an excellent choice of tasty well cooked food with a host of options to suit every taste including fish, meat and vegetarian options. the staff are excellent and the balcony bar is a beautiful place to have a drink and watch the sun set.
