I traveled around the West Balkans for 7 weeks staying mostly at hostels, and this is the only one I would never recommend to anybody. It has absolutely no charm and none of the friendly atmosphere that hostels normally have, especially in this region. The place is more like a cheap hotel than a hostel. If you just need a clean place to sleep in some sterile surroundings, then this place is fine.

I would not recommend this hostel to anyone. There is only air conditioning in the reception area where the staff work. Everywhere else is like a sauna. I got bitten by what I can only presume are bed bugs every night I stayed there ( I stayed in various different types of accommodation in Dubrovnik and never got bitten once) If you are unfortunate enough to be in the room attached onto the dining area there is constant noise day and night. The reservation system is a joke. The staff will not reserve rooms in advance, you have to go down the next morning to book your room again. The kitchen facilities are inadequate - for the whole hostel there is one small fridge and a hob. There is no internet access.

How anybody can describe this place as charming is beyond me ! Just about acceptable, it may be, charming it certainly isn't.
I stayed for a night in September 2004 in one of the 4 bed rooms - the beds have headboards at each end, so that even I struggled to get comfortable (I'm 6 foot). The other problems were the temperature - I can't imagine how bad it must be in height of Summer - and the noise of our fellow hostellers (especially the schoolkids) ! There was also a lack of lightbulbs in the bathroom, and there were only 3 showers each for men and women - luckily we were late getting up, or it would have been a problem.
There are plenty of private rooms and appartments in Dubrovnik, so I would definitely suggest booking them rather than staying here. The only really good thing about the hostel - it's location close to the bus station and near the Old Town was very handy.
