Stayed for a week at the Valamar P, was slightly worried having read the last few reviews, but have to say we were pleasently surprised.
We had booked the one of the "romantic" rooms which was spacious and spotlessly clean, the bed was stupidly big and the view.... amazing.
I have to agree with a few of the previous comments re decor, the hotel I'm sure is 4* by Coatian standards (and having had a nose around the other adjacent resorts was certainly the best we saw) it doesnt match up to a western EU 4* hotel, but remember this isnt the EU and the country was at war less than 10 years ago, give them a break if the decor is slightly dated! But it was obvious it had had a lick of paint recently communal areas were fresh and everything was very clean (didnt have any issues with smells as stated in last review during our stay) though one of the lifts did breakdown ALLOT which was inconvenient but gave us a much needed excuse to get some exercise via the stairs.
I would reiterate about the beach, it isnt private (though we never had problem getting loungers) and the pebbles do hurt your feet so take surf shoes, flipflops are pointless and you cant walk in the water with them.
Breakfast was great, brilliant selection, we ate lunch and dinner through the week at the hotel as well (recommend the white rissotto - the best ive ever had, but other wise you can eat better and cheaper in the old town, they smoother everything in cheese at the hotel, dinner wasnt the best).
Facilities wise we used the pool, jaccuzzi, gym and steam rooms, we went most days about 5pm and the were the only ones in there.
Re location: yes this isnt in the main areas of lapad/ old town but actually we liked that, after we'd spent 2 days seeing what we wanted to see in the old town we were glad not to be staying there, when the cruise ships dock getting round was a nightmare, we tended to avoid going into town full stop during the day and just went in for dinner after 7pm when all the cruise passengers had disappeared. The bus as other people have said stops outside the hotel and the pile gate (about 10-15mins each way) costs 12K pp and runs till 1.30am - it also stops at Lapad and Gruz Harbour on the way.
We also found that there are a couple of nice cliff top walks from the hotel both to Lapad and Gruz harbour which are worth doing (approx 15mins to both) and there is a little shopping complex with a few bars and mini marts 5 mins away (we stocked up on beers and sat and drank them on our terrace watching the sun set before going out).
My only small complaint is that the tour desk wasnt the greatest, if you want to do anything other than the standard island tour and fish picnic they dont offer much else, which was a bit disappointing, we wanted to go fishing or do something abit off the standard tourist trail and they looked at us like we were mad!
