I stayed at Villa Elly with my husband and 11 month old baby for a week and loved every minute of our stay. Having never stayed in a private apartment before, we didn't know what to expect, but can say only good things about our experience.
We stayed in Apartment Nika, which was small, but absolutely fine for our needs. It had a small living area with a kitchenette (which was very well-equipped), a bedroom (with a cot as requested) and bathroom with shower. We also had a small terrace outside the apartment where we could sit and relax, as well as dry out our clothes after swimming! Everything was spotlessly clean and all in all, the apartment was a lovely, cosy place to spend the week. Villa Elly is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Old City and there are two pathways to take depending on your circumstances. One, which is a little quicker, has lots of steps (so no good for us with the pushchair!) but both are easy routes. There are also plenty of buses which you can catch from outside the Pile Gate which are handy as the walk back to the apartments is uphill.
However, as has been said so many times before, the best thing about Villa Elly has to be the hosts. Andrija is one of the nicest, most helpful people I have ever met, and his wife Elly was also lovely. During our stay, we hired a car to drive into Bosnia which Andrija organised for us at short notice and with no fuss, and he also organised a private, very reasonably priced, tour of Montenegro for us with a lovely guy called Sasha. He took us to the airport and back for a very good price, and on arrival gave us a bunch of leaflets and advice on what to do in the city (as well as advising on local supermarkets, beaches and other useful information). We bumped into him and Elly every day, and while I had been worried that staying in private accomodation would prove to be quite difficult (as we like to have our own space on holidays), we never found them to be invasive or bothersome. They were around if we needed them, or just for a quick hello, but otherwise we were left to our own devices. They were also very sweet towards our daughter Lily (even when she was having a screaming fit in their faces!).
There is absolutely no doubt that if we return to Dubrovnik (which I hope we do), we would choose to stay at Villa Elly again. I can't recommend it highly enough.
