“The location is the only good part!”

I read good views on this place so decided to book - bad idea! We told Nives of our exact arrival time, around 9pm and so we expected her to at least be at the building. Instead there was a note on the door with some mobile number and as we're from overseas we couldn't call her so waited for a bit, hoping she'd show up. She obviously wasn't going to and luckily a stranger asked why we were standing outside and called her for us. She then showed up, not really apologizing at all. The next problem was the shower and sink in the bathroom. The taps leaked constantly to the point the entire floor was soaked which was gross and dangerous. Then when we tried to take showers the hot tap just wouldn't turn off at all. I called her on the mobile in the hallway and she said she'd sort it out in the morning. Well, we went out for most of the day and it still wasn't fixed so I called again and she seemed like it was a chore and said "there's a way to turn it off" indicating that other people have also had problems and she just hasn't bothered fixing it!

Then the light bulb went out on the 2nd day in the bathroom and she said her son would come over soon - again, I had to call 3 times over 2 days and finally she showed up. The furniture was old, dirty and gross. She wasn't helpful and was clearly aware of specific issues she just never bothered fixing since she knows people just stay for a while then it will be the next guest's problem. The ONLY good thing about this place is the great location in the old town. Don't stay here - you might as well stay in a scummy hostel if you want poor quality. I wasn't at all impressed with the standards or Nives herself.

Room Tip: don't stay here is my tip

“Great location but just ok”

Nives herself was really nice and helpful. Although we seemed to email back and forward about the same thing for a long time, not really getting anywhere (I told her we were arriving by bus from Split and she kept asking if we needed a lift from the airport) but as English isn't her firs lanuage and I don't speak Croatian I guess that was to be expected.

She had also emailed before we left to give us the address of the apartment, which was in the old town. We were travelling from Dubrovnik to Split to Hvar and then back to Dubrovnik again, staying with Nives on our second stint in Dubrovnik. So while we were there the first time we searched out the apartment so that we knew where we were going on our return. However, the day we were arriving I happened to check my emails (boring 4 hour bus journey from Split) and she had emailed with a different address! We got a taxi from the bus station as we didn't know where we were going and when we got there Nives was nowhere to be seen. We waited about 15mins til she finally arrived. Turns out she thought we were arriving later than we were and hadn't cleaned the room yet. She showed us to the room anyway and said she'd come back and clean it when we went out...but then kept coming in and out of the room as we were getting settled - I think she lives in the building too but we weren't too comfortable with her coming in and out.

The room was a bit basic and I didn't find the bed or the sofa particularly comfortable. We only stayed for a night and I don't think I'd have wanted to stay much longer, it could really do with sprucing up a bit. Saying all that, the location was absolutely amazing. We have a view of the old town and harbour and it was literally 30 seconds walk from the Ploce Gate. Theres also a great wee shop right below the apartment selling fresh bread, pastry etc.

The kitchen was really basic but I guess would be useful if you were staying longer than a few nights.

I didn't sleep very well at all - I'm not sure if it was because the sheets didn't appear clean or the strange howling noise that went on most of the night (no idea what it was).

Nives offered to take us to the airport that day for a really good price, about 10euros cheaper than a taxi which was really helpful. Her son ended up driving us and was really friendly and even stopped off a couple of times to let us take pictures of the old town.

All in all, Nives and her son were lovely but the room left a bit to be desired, even taking the amazing location into account and I wouldn't stay here again.

“Aussie Visitors”

I booked Nives's Apartment online from Australia. Nives's arranged for her son to pick us up at the airport. He had another plane to meet so arranged for us to catch the bus into town where Nive would be there to meet us. Nives's Apartments are in the Old Town - the only place to stay. We were given the Attic apartment which was just lovely with views. As we were winging it from Dubrovnik to Split, Nives was extremely helpful with organising our next stop accommodation and ideas of where to go and what to see. So grateful for all her help and hospitality. Thank you Nives it was a pleasure to meet you.
Regards
Aussie Mum & Daughter.

“A perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

A friend and I checked into one of Nives's apartments having arrived in town in the middle of the low season. We couldn't have been happier with the welcome we received from our host who was eager to make us feel at home and offered a range of suggestions (trips, restaurants...) for our five days in the area. The apartment is clean, and appears to be newly renovated; the location is stunning, with views looking out to the Adriatic on all sides. There is a supermarket and a bakery in the building and a cafe across the street. The gate into the old town is 50m from the apartment.

“This location has everything!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Nives was generous to upgrade us to the attic room which has great views. Open the windows to sleep if you can, cos the sounds of waves will get you smiling as you go to sleep.

The location is great, with a supermarket, bakery and laundromat very nearby. Pop by the bakery downstairs at 630 am to get their fresh bakes, especially the nutella soft rolls. The laundromat is newly opened with very new equipment and comfortable environment.
